CHAMOMILE: This herb has long been used as a tranquilizer. It soothes frayed nerves because it actually slows down the central nervous system. You can add it to a warm bath, or take it in tea form. It also calms indigestion that may come along with being anxious. LAVENDER: This herb is widely used in aroma therapy for relaxation. For relaxing put 5 drops of the essential oil in warm bath water. Or.. you can buy an aromatherapy lamp, put a few drops of the lavender oil in with water, and heat. You can also drink a lavender tea for "gassy" stomachs. MOTHERWORT: This herb is used as a mild sedative. It also helps with insomnia, and jittery nerves. Correct dosage is: Drink 2 cups of tea per day. Use one or two teaspoons of dried herb per cup or mix 10 to 15 drops of extract in warm water. ST. JOHN'S WORT: This herb has been used as a mild tranquilizer for centuries. It can be used for treating anxiety, emotional problems, depression and as a mild muscle relaxer with no dangerous side effects. Mix 10 to 15 drops of extract in liquid to make a cup of tea. VALERIAN: The word Valium comes from the herb Valerian. Chemically the drug and the herb are not related though, but in the end they both work the same. Valerian treats anxiety and insomnia. Take one capsule up to three times a day, or make tea by mixing two teaspoons of dried herb with boiling water then steep 15 minutes. Other nerve calming and strengtening herbs: Black Cohosh (tensions) Damiana (tonic), Feverfew, Lemon Balm, Lime flowers, Wild Lettuce (sedative), Passion flower (tonic), Rosemary, Vervain (tonic), and above all: Oats. |
GH3 is widely used in Europe. Sold via Earthchild or Harmony2000 To rub on aching joints: Comfrey tincture, or birch essential oil mixed with a carrier oil (i.e. canola, almond), 20-50 drops into about 30 ml carrier oil, depending on the intensity of the pain. Also: Swedenbitter poultices. Horsetail bath or poultice helps if the whole body is afflicted with inflamed joints. Tea: Stinging Nettle, 4 cups per day (3 times, take part of a your cup and add 1 tablespoon Swedenbitters, drink that mix divided, half before, half after each meal). Additionally, 1 cup each of horsetail (steep ½ minute only), ½ hour before breakfast and dinner. Habanero peppers steeped in olive oil for a week make a liniment that is great against pain (but don't you dare touch any sensitive bodyparts with your fingers after applying. I mean HOURS after applying!!). Quick relief: 5 drops Feverfew tincture. Rheumatoid arthritis: Witchhazel ointment (Hamamelis) it is an anti-inflammatory and wonderfully cooling to painful joints. Avoid red fruits like tomatoes and strawberries and supplement with essential fatty acids like evening primrose oil and omega 3. Devils claw, liquorice, chinese skullcap, turmeric and ginseng are also good as are antioxidants vit A, E, zinc, magnesium, selenium. For more detailed recipes, Go to the recipe Page |
Couchgrass, yarrow, and marshmallow seem to be preventive (for those of us who can’t seem to shake this for long). If you have it, here's the cure: 500 mg Vit C every hour until acute systems lessen, then 1000mg 2-3 times daily. 50,000 IU Beta Carotine twice daily 1000 IU Vit E daily 15 mg Zinc twice daily 2-3 TBS flax seed oil twice daily with food Take Echinacea in any form and garlic, either fresh or oil caps. Fastest help: Uva Ursi (Bearberry) tea, 3-4 cups per day, add corn silk if burning is bad. Pipissewa can be alternated or added. Usnea lichen works great, but isn't water soluble and must be tinctured. Good thing to have on hand. In between all this, drink as much unsweetened Cranberry juice as you can hold :) (alternative: capsules, 4 each dose). |
PEPPERMINT: Especially helpful when caused by upset tummy (ulcer). Brew tea as directed on package and drink as much as you like. Occasionally swivel around in mouth before swallowing. TIP: Tastes especially good iced in summertime. Due to the natural oils does not keep well at room temperature... so brew fresh each day :) PARSLEY: Chew fresh sprigs several times a day. Caution: Large amounts can alter your bloodpressure. Don't take when pregnant. |
Fenugreek (trigonella foenum-graceum) tea loosens drains the sinus VERY fast, before the first cup of tea is finished! The taste is vile, honey may be added to make it more bearable (fennel honey is good) Chili peppers contain substances that stimulates the cilia (little hairs that keep airways clean) and liquify secretions. Fresh Chili is also high in vitamin C, which is a must intake for all infections, along with zink (approx. 100mg/day, depending on the product). Also, many healers believe infections go via the ears. Pour hydrogen peroxide (the commercial bottles will do) into each ear, leave in 5-10 minutes, until the bubbling stopped. Repeat every 1-2 hours. Whether the bacteria/virus theory is right or not, it sure works :) Spray throat or gargle with it too. Also try mullein leaf tea. If you can find a way to inhale it, so much the better. For more details, Go to Recipes Page |
Lavender essential oil heals burns, wounds, and infections (but hurts). Apply honey (to prevent blistering) or cold milk. |
Licorish root (glycyrhiza spp.) tincture internally, ¾ to 1 teaspoon, 3-5 times/day, 3-5 days upon first symptoms. When already too late, apply tincture directly to cold sore. St.John’s Wort also works, but licorish root is more effective. L-lysine. Mega dose the first few days, then go to directions on bottle. Discontinue when sores are gone. When used at the slightest tingle, sores often don’t materialize (witchhazel does the same prevention). When caught too late: Lemon Balm infusion, applied as often as remembered, also as tea. Baking soda paste, witchhazel extract/tincture. |
Clove infusion (slowboil whole cloves for 10 minutes, use cooled liquid) takes the pain and disinfects. To heal deep wounds: Echinacea Root, Goldenseal Leaf, and Myrrh Gum (mix into salve). Fast healer is comfrey, but beware: Heals surface too fast on deep wounds, and can cause abscess, and should only be used a few days after the E/G/M mix. Shepherd’s Purse stops bleedings on contact. |
Reversing: Slippery Elm & Honey Paste, Comfrey root poultice packed (dried root in aloe gel, for example) into wound (only if no infections is present, otherwise that is treated first)/ Change once a day, clean with hydrogene poroxide. |
Eat chopped, fresh Garlic several times a day (just a tad bit). Black tea, 3 cups per day. I’d add honey to kill off any invasive bacteria causing the runs. And an immediate, best ever cure: 1 teaspoon slippery elm powder and 1 teaspoon betonit clay (food grade), mix into a paste like flour, then thin with juice so you can get it down. Usually stops the runs within an hour or two, in really bad cases take another does 6 hours later. Works suavely without any side effects (other then a bit of constipation if you overdosed, hehe) on children, elderly, weak, and PETS (yeeyyyy). Doesn’t taste too bad either. If you’re more food oriented, apple sauce will work as well, just not as fast. Take a portion every few hours for a day or two. Eat bananas. |
Plantain tincture. Crush one fresh organic garlic clove into 3 TBS olive oil, leave 24 hrs, strain, add few drops every hour. If you have a serious ear ache caused by an infection, look up the ear owie oil ingredients on the product page :) Nothing better then Mullien oil with lavender and garlic and a few other gizmos. |
Castor oil relieves irritation and makes more comfortable. Add a drip into the eye. Eyenbright Formula helps with floaters and other common deseases, i.e. pink eye etc. Cotton balls soaked in strong rosehip tea reduce swellings and bags under eyes. > Eyebright treats infections and afflictions, such as pink-eye. The herb strengthens the eys and helps to repair damage. For pinkeye / styx, use Colloidial Silverwater every few hours. It will be gone overnight (I use internally AND externally) |
Collect Plantago Lanceolata (Latin), common name: Plantain, Greater or Ribworth. Both, the slim leave variation and the common broad leave variation work. Crush the leaves on a wooden board with a wooden pin (or whatever else you can find. But NO metal tools please, wood only). The crushed mix is then applied on top of the oil treated skin as a poultice. Cover with cloth and leave four applied for 4 hours. Reapply at least daily. Simultaneously, take one tablespoon of plantain syrup prior to each meal, three times a day. Recipe for syrup: Two heaped double handfuls of washed leaves put through a mincer. To this add water so it does not burn, 300 gram of raw sugar, and 250 gram of honey. Stir constantly on a low heat until this mixture is thick-flowing and bottle. Keep in refrigerator. On top of that, drink herbal blood cleansing tea (minimum of two cups a day): even mix of POT marigold (calendula), stinging nettle, red clover, burdock root, and yarrow. For Thyroids: Kelp, Bladderwrack, or Licorice root and other things with high mineral content. Warning: No licorice with high bloodpressure!! I successfully treated Hypothyroidism in a friend with the following formula from The Scientific Validation of Herbal Medicine by Daniel Mowrey... 2 parts Gentian 1 part Red pepper 1 part saw palmetto 1/2 part mustard seed. (1/2 a dropperful 3 times a day 10 minutes before before meals then, I also gave her a seperate tincture of Gotu Kola simple. 1 dropperful 2 times a day morning and afternoon). In her case, she had severe hpothyroidism and was also taking medication. the medication was not working, and with this addition it worked. She resumed an active life (she was sleeping all day and not working and loosing weight) and now holds down a job......Love Penny ************** You may want to look into Guggalu (Yogaraja) - commiphora mukul Resin. It strengthens the thyroid and raises the blood levels of thyroid hormone. It improves state of mind by counteracting melatonin which is a pineal hormone often implicated with depression. It does a ton more too. (this was taken from Thornes guide to herbal extracts). Bladderwrack plant (fucus versiculosus) is said to be good for under active Thyroids, as is kelp. Both are high in iodine, which is needed for thyroid to function as well as for pituitary and pineal glands. Take 1tsp per day along with vitamin E…..Love, Vicki |
Green Pharmacy says celery seed extracts daily or 4 celery stalks a day for 1 week. Encyclopedia of Medicinal Plants Andrew Chevallier says Take celery tablets, or make a decoction with the seeds. Divide into 3 doses & drink during the day or add 25 g of seeds to food per day. |

To tickle new hair to grow, work into the scalp at least daily, better 2-3 times daily. Olive Oil: Massage into scalp (leave overnight) 8 days in a row. Jojoba oil, apply as hotpacks (warm oil, soak hair, wrap in towel, keep as long as you can, minimum 1 hour, wash out gently). Eat silica (cold infused horsetail tea, for example, contains the most if you don’t want to take supplements) and blackstrap molasses (for calcium, TBS or more per day). |
For heat related headaches: Apply a paste of freshly grounded horsereddish on a damp cloth and apply to neck for 1/2 hour. You might wanna check the migraine section, there’s great advise there too.. |
Witch hazel pads also helps. But the best, and fastest? Yarrow tea. 2 cups 3 times a day when active (will be reduced in a few days, gone from 1-3 weeks, depending on the severances and age of the h’s). If you continue to drink a cup 2-3 times a week, they’ll never come back. Ask me how I know :) Even if you forget, if you feel them coming, and turn to yarrow immediately, you are usually able to stop them. (thank you JUNE, I’ll be forever in your debth!). For severe cases: 2 capsules yarrow and 2 capsules horse chestnut, twice a day, and as much yarrow tea that you can handle. |
Ecchinacea or Black Eyed Susan (B.E.S. if you can get it. Same principle, but stronger then Echi), Zinc, Vitamin E & C. If you're allready 'bugged', here's a first aid remedy:) Fist aid Immune System Booster Properties: anti-viral/anti-biotic/anti-bacterial/anti-septic/anti-fungal (power pack to stop immediate symptoms and kick system in gear) 500 mg Vitamin C every hour (CAN cause slight diarrhea…. If so (very very rare), lower dose, eat chocolate :) 15 mg zinc twice daily (careful, only AFTER meal) L-lysine (as directed on jar) Additionally, as much Echinacea (either tincture, capsules or tea) and garlic (preferably fresh and organic, but capsules will do) as you can remember to swallow Probiotics (life culture joghurt, acidophilus, bifidus, etc) This usually rights the system within half a day or so…. Continue taking until symptoms are gone, at least twice a day. Drink kombucha tea (not only when sick), its one of the bestest natural antibiotics Momma provides…. |
For major battle, see First Aid Miracle Herbs . Sugar also draws out infections, as does chickweed and plantain (best used together) plant pulp. |
From Jamie: The Master Cleanse - Lemonade Diet also works well for stones. I have a family member who did this and worked like a charm. 2 Tblsp Organic fresh squeezed lemon juice, 1 Tblsp Organic grade B Real Maple Syrup, Spring Water. Add minum of 1/4 teaspoon cayenne. There is a booklet out at most health food stores "The Master Cleanse" |
Milk Thystle and one of its components, Silymarin, is one of the most potent liver medicines, as it inhibits free radicals and stimulates protein action to repair damaged cells and grow new ones. Dandelion is excellent for hepatitis because it contains high amounts of vitamins, minerals, protein, pectin, insulin and choline. It aids bile flow which decongests the liver. Artichoke is good for protection and regeneration. The spice Tuneric has liver healing properties. Common Club Moss is what I used myself, and saved my cat with (total liver and kidney failure) Fresh is best, but all herbs can be used tinctured or dried/capsuled. Dose recommendation: Dandelion: 250-500 mg (dried root: 4 gm, fluid: 4-8 ml) Milk Thystle: 70-210 mg 3x a day Globe artichoke (Cynara scolymus): Dried leaves 4-6 gm |
Apply a paste of salt and vinegar. Apply soap. Apply Myrrh oil |
Emphazema: Mallow tea, 3-4 cups a day, and also the Thyme tea and swedenbitters. The above also goes for the coughing and such. Thyme is a miracle cure.... |
½ cup of fresh pumpkin seeds 1 saw palmetto capsule (the powder within, of course) a few drops of liquid licorice extract Brazil nut oil (to make the whole thing into a pleasant paste) Put in blender until smooth, eat 2 TBS per day on crackers. Keep in mind though, that very often Prostate problems are the symptom. The PROBLEM could be the kidneys, and a kidney/bladder tea to flush and cleanse out toxins is never wrong. You might be surprised what other symptoms you’ll loose. |
Itchy skin bath: Lavender, orange peel, thyme, mint, sage, rosemary, comfrey root, cloves, rose leaf. Rash: Fresh comfrey and chickweed, also cooked up and soaked into a piece of cotton (like tea). For scarring: Rosehip oil soothes and lightens scars. Chickweed moistens skin and has drawing qualities, also anti itching. The milk of dandelions, mixed into a lotion, will perk up old, wrinkly skin. Rosehip oil prevents or reduces scarring, so does pure cocoa butter Balm of Gilead salve draws cancer out through the skin due to the active ingredient of Sanguinaria Canadensis. Evening Primrose oil, mixed with St. John’s Wort oil and avocado oil soothes. Gardener’s Dream Cream is said to be great: www.aromacrystal.com Internally: Lots of Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids will make skin soft and healthy. But – remember that skin problems are the symptoms of internal trouble. Most often, a blood cleanse and kidney flush will solve the condition. The body is loaded with toxins, and trys to expel them through the skin. Help with the following herbal teamix: Burdock root, Red Clover Blossoms, Stinging Nettles, Cleavers, Yarrow. Prepare as tea or tincture. Unless your cause is a contact allergy, this often does the trick. Of course, you also have to eliminate the cause. Check your life style, and the skin pages in our life altering disease section. |
St. John’s Wort oil is another option, as is aloe vera and comfrey in any form. Avocado and Wheatgerm oil make good carriers for the others in this case. |
Clove oil is supposed to help, but usually irritates the skin immensely; I only list it to warn of it, as it seems to be recommended often. Better gently chew a whole clove and press onto infected area. Drink warm mint tea. Apply swedenbitters, as often and as long as you can manage. I personally saved/cured a very bad tooth with it. Application hurts, but it is a ‘good’ pain, like slowly burning the pain away, if that makes any sense. I use a Q-tip or a small medical tampon to apply on infected area for several minutes, at least once an hour. Calcium intake calms the nerves (which are after all responsible for the pain) Feverfew tincture (or chew a fresh leave) is another option. Best pain relieve is IPIAC, carried in most larger stores that have a good drug section. I found it in the dental care area too. Mouthwash and/or teas: Oak bark is an astringent and high in calcium, and will tighten the gums. Myrhh is an antibiotic. White willow bark for pain, a natural source of aspirin. The cut oak bark seems to make a better tea, but get myrhh gum already powdered (it’s sticky as heck). But the best, AND to save teeth (thanks Penny): Dr. Schultze's Tooth and Gum Formula: Tooth & Gum Potion (recipe also posted on the Healing Breezes portion, linked from main page) |
To flush away phlegm and to ease pain, gargle for 10 seconds: Salt Water: Stir 1 teaspoon salt into a cup of warm water. Sage: Put 2 teaspoons dried leaves in 1 cup boiling water, steep 10 minutes, then cool until warm. Lemon: Mix the juice of one lemon in one cup warm water. Raspberry Leaf: Put 2 tsp raspberry leaf in 1 cup boiling water, steep 10 minutes, strain and cool until warm. Peppermint Leaves: Peppermint leaves will make the other herbs in this blend more effective. It has an ability to clear congested nasal passages and improve breathing. Cayenne Pepper: Mix the juice of half a lemon, 1 tbsp salt and 1/2 tsp cayenne in 1/2 cup warm water. Cayenne reduces the pain-causing chemicals produced by nerves in the throat. |
Walnut oil for salads and eat walnuts. Walnuts apparently increase the levels of thyroxine. |
1 quart water 2 tablespoons dandelion root 1 teaspoon each marjoram and oregano Simmer dandelion root in covered pot for 10 minutes. Add spices, stir, cover again, and simmer another 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to sit 20 minutes, strain, sweeten with honey to taste, and drink 1 cup three times daily, between meals. Allow a few weeks for veins to fade. |
4 parts saffron (crocus sativus)(can be substituted with 2 pts. peppermint/1 pt slippery elm) 3 parts Burdock root (arctium lappa) 3 parts parsley root (petroselinim crispum) 3 parts kelp (laminaria saccharina or fucus vesiculosis) 2 parts echinacea (echinacea angustifolia ; E. purpurea) 2 parts black walnut (juglans nigra) 2 parts licorice glycyrrhiza glabra) 2 parts fennel (foeniculum vulgare) 2 parts papaya (carica papaya) 1 part hawthorne berries (crataegus laevigata) Fill you own capsules and take 2 or 3 morning and night with a cup of chickweed tea (or chickweed capsules). |
From Roxanne: This is not herbal but it works like a charm. Use gel caps to cap up boric acid (dry form found at any pharmacy) and use as a vaginal suppository. Insert 12 hours apart and I will tell you that you will find full relief in two treatments. You need a panty protector. |
