  • Symptom: Alzheimers, Seizures, Nerve Damage
    Herb: Flax Seed Oil
Many people have also found relieve (I hesitate to say cure, because I have not seen it with my own eyes and therefore cannot validate that claim, but the sources are first and second hand and seem reliable) by drinking fresh goat milk. LOTS of it too :)

    Symptom: Aids, HIV positive
    Herb: Several
You don’t believe its this simple? Well, if you are reading this…. What have you got to loose? Echinacea (augustifolia is the strongest, but purpurea would do) tincture increases the T-cell count. 2-6 droppers 3x per day (pulse: 2 weeks on, 1 week off). It is also the strongest known immune system booster. Add 3 cloves of (fresh, organic) garlic per day for the same reasons. It is one of the strongest natural anti-biotics known to man, no side effects (hey, it won’t matter if you smell funny, people will at least have a valid REASON to stay away, hmm?), and capable of fighting off everyday nasties. Ever seen a greek guy with the sniffles? I haven’t. It would even be better if you make Dr. Schulze’s Super Tonic formula (on the product pages, but I’ll just as soon walk you through making your own, the recipe is listed, and its EASY to make).

Symptom: Anxiety (Result of too much Stress)
    Herb: Listed Below<
CATNIP: Contains chemicals called Nepetalactone isomers that are the chemical cousins to the sedating chemicals found in valerian. Those chemicals are what drive cats wild, but experts say that they can be used at a mild tranquilizer as well. It has a minty taste and is best taken as a tea. Don't boil the water though, simple add 2 teaspoons of catnip to hot water and let it steep for about 15 minutes.. you can safely drink up to 3 cups per day.

CHAMOMILE: This herb has long been used as a tranquilizer. It soothes frayed nerves because it actually slows down the central nervous system. You can add it to a warm bath, or take it in tea form. It also calms indigestion that may come along with being anxious.

LAVENDER: This herb is widely used in aroma therapy for relaxation. For relaxing put 5 drops of the essential oil in warm bath water. Or.. you can buy an aromatherapy lamp, put a few drops of the lavender oil in with water, and heat. You can also drink a lavender tea for "gassy" stomachs.

MOTHERWORT: This herb is used as a mild sedative. It also helps with insomnia, and jittery nerves. Correct dosage is: Drink 2 cups of tea per day. Use one or two teaspoons of dried herb per cup or mix 10 to 15 drops of extract in warm water.

ST. JOHN'S WORT: This herb has been used as a mild tranquilizer for centuries. It can be used for treating anxiety, emotional problems, depression and as a mild muscle relaxer with no dangerous side effects.
Mix 10 to 15 drops of extract in liquid to make a cup of tea.

VALERIAN: The word Valium comes from the herb Valerian. Chemically the drug and the herb are not related though, but in the end they both work the same. Valerian treats anxiety and insomnia. Take one capsule up to three times a day, or make tea by mixing two teaspoons of dried herb with boiling water then steep 15 minutes.
Other nerve calming and strengtening herbs: Black Cohosh (tensions) Damiana (tonic), Feverfew, Lemon Balm, Lime flowers, Wild Lettuce (sedative), Passion flower (tonic), Rosemary, Vervain (tonic), and above all: Oats.

    Symptom: Artritis
Herb: Angelica, Barberry, Bayberry, Chamomile, Chaparral, Coriander, Dandelion, Devils Claw, Feverfew, Horsetail, Meadowsweet, Licorice, Turmeric (Cucuma), Yucca, as the most effective
First of all, stay away from coffee and nikotine. It increases the symptoms.
GH3 is widely used in Europe. Sold via Earthchild or Harmony2000
To rub on aching joints: Comfrey tincture, or birch essential oil mixed with a carrier oil (i.e. canola, almond), 20-50 drops into about 30 ml carrier oil, depending on the intensity of the pain.
    Also: Swedenbitter poultices.
Horsetail bath or poultice helps if the whole body is afflicted with inflamed joints. Tea: Stinging Nettle, 4 cups per day (3 times, take part of a your cup and add 1 tablespoon Swedenbitters, drink that mix divided, half before, half after each meal). Additionally, 1 cup each of horsetail (steep ½ minute only), ½ hour before breakfast and dinner.
Habanero peppers steeped in olive oil for a week make a liniment that is great against pain (but don't you dare touch any sensitive bodyparts with your fingers after applying. I mean HOURS after applying!!).
Quick relief: 5 drops Feverfew tincture.
Rheumatoid arthritis: Witchhazel ointment (Hamamelis) it is an anti-inflammatory and wonderfully cooling to painful joints. Avoid red fruits like tomatoes and strawberries and supplement with essential fatty acids like evening primrose oil and omega 3. Devils claw, liquorice, chinese skullcap, turmeric and ginseng are also good as are antioxidants vit A, E, zinc, magnesium, selenium. For more detailed recipes, Go to the recipe Page

    Symptom: Shortness of Breath/Suffocating
    Herb: black cohosh
200 mg every morning. Stinging nettle tea daily.

Symptom: Well, it hurts :) (aka Bee Sting)
    Herb: Various
Bee stings are protein (poisoning, so to speak). Papaya (aka Pawpaw) fruit dissolves protein. Isn’t that handy? Alternatively, you could use meat tenderizer (but you didn’t hear it from me). Works, believe it or not, also on Men o’ War stings (thanks Penny, but outch!). Marshmallow Extract mixed with olive oil, reduces the pain in minutes, and there will be no swelling (thanks Beverly). Emu oil with Lavender e.o. (thanks Cynthia). Onions (thanks Heather, ewwwww:). Poke root paste (thanks Doug). Baking soda in icewater (thanks Joan). Well, let the bees come. If you’re allergic, by the way, try to find a local bee master and by his honey and pollen. Both are supposed to work on your bee(sting) allergy like a charm. The ‘flying’ pollen allergy, by the way, too. And it if doesn’t, at least you’re getting something BACK from the little buggers.

    Symptom: Bladder/Urinary Tract Infection
    Herb: Listed Below
Eat lots of joghurt (biological one with right milkassets sour the urine and kill the offending bacteria
Couchgrass, yarrow, and marshmallow seem to be preventive (for those of us who can’t seem to shake this for long). If you have it, here's the cure: 500 mg Vit C every hour until acute systems lessen, then 1000mg 2-3 times daily. 50,000 IU Beta Carotine twice daily 1000 IU Vit E daily 15 mg Zinc twice daily 2-3 TBS flax seed oil twice daily with food Take Echinacea in any form and garlic, either fresh or oil caps. Fastest help: Uva Ursi (Bearberry) tea, 3-4 cups per day, add corn silk if burning is bad. Pipissewa can be alternated or added. Usnea lichen works great, but isn't water soluble and must be tinctured. Good thing to have on hand. In between all this, drink as much unsweetened Cranberry juice as you can hold :) (alternative: capsules, 4 each dose).

    Symptom: Brittle bones
    Herb: Dandelion
From Dottie: According to M. Wood (The Book of Herbal Wisdom) it has been verified by x-rays that it will recalcify the bones.

    Symptom: Bad Breath
    Herb: Listed Below
ALFALFA: this herb contains Chlorophyll, this is also the ingredient in most commercial breath freshening products on the market. Sip alfalfa tea several times a day to keep breath fresh. Add one of two teaspoons of dried leaves to a cup of boiling water and steep 15 minutes.

PEPPERMINT: Especially helpful when caused by upset tummy (ulcer). Brew tea as directed on package and drink as much as you like. Occasionally swivel around in mouth before swallowing. TIP: Tastes especially good iced in summertime. Due to the natural oils does not keep well at room temperature... so brew fresh each day :)

PARSLEY: Chew fresh sprigs several times a day. Caution: Large amounts can alter your bloodpressure. Don't take when pregnant.

    Symptom: Bronchitis, Cold
    Herb: Various
Teamix: Anisseed, thyme, coltsfoot, and ribwort plantain. Steep 10-20 minutes and strain, drink 3 cups a day for maximum effect.
Fenugreek (trigonella foenum-graceum) tea loosens drains the sinus VERY fast, before the first cup of tea is finished! The taste is vile, honey may be added to make it more bearable (fennel honey is good)
Chili peppers contain substances that stimulates the cilia (little hairs that keep airways clean) and liquify secretions. Fresh Chili is also high in vitamin C, which is a must intake for all infections, along with zink (approx. 100mg/day, depending on the product).
Also, many healers believe infections go via the ears. Pour hydrogen peroxide (the commercial bottles will do) into each ear, leave in 5-10 minutes, until the bubbling stopped. Repeat every 1-2 hours. Whether the bacteria/virus theory is right or not, it sure works :) Spray throat or gargle with it too. Also try mullein leaf tea. If you can find a way to inhale it, so much the better. For more details, Go to Recipes Page

    Symptom: Burns
    Herb: Several
1st aide: Cold water and ice
Lavender essential oil heals burns, wounds, and infections (but hurts).
Apply honey (to prevent blistering) or cold milk.

    Symptom: Cancer
Go to Life Altering Illness Page for the in depth cancer research.
Did you know? A CGH pregnancy test can confirm cancer. It does, with an accuracy of better than 92% in all cases. If the urine sample shows positive it means either normal pregnancy or abnormal malignant cancer. Black Strap Molasses, by the way, is supposed to be the best preventive measure if you know you might be a candidate. Studies have shown, obviously, that sugar can workers never had cancer (cause they chew on the canes all the time). Considering BSM is laden with all kinds of treasures the body needs, I’m not about to argue, anyway.

    Symptom: Achy wrist
    Herb: Various
See the research pages (life.htm) for details. It seems only a mix of nutrition, exercise, and external herbs will really work best. Castor oil (hot) packs bring the fastest and best relief.

    Symptom: Colesterol, high
    Herb: Various
Grapeseed oil (linoleic due to EFA), Almond oil (in place of saturated fats)

    Symptom: Cold Sores/Fever Blisters/Herpes Simplex
    Herb: Listed Below
Tea tree oil sometimes works, and can actually prevent the surface when applied as soon as the first tingling starts.
Licorish root (glycyrhiza spp.) tincture internally, ¾ to 1 teaspoon, 3-5 times/day, 3-5 days upon first symptoms. When already too late, apply tincture directly to cold sore. St.John’s Wort also works, but licorish root is more effective.
L-lysine. Mega dose the first few days, then go to directions on bottle. Discontinue when sores are gone. When used at the slightest tingle, sores often don’t materialize (witchhazel does the same prevention). When caught too late: Lemon Balm infusion, applied as often as remembered, also as tea. Baking soda paste, witchhazel extract/tincture.

    Symptom: You know, backlogged
    Herb: Honey
2 tablespoons of honey, 3x a day, in your favorite herbal tea. Yes, its that easy and tasty :) Additionally, manual stimulation (un-petroleum jelly, a soft tissue, apply gentle rotating pressure from the inside of the after. You’ll KNOW when you’re doing it right, trust me) helps to get a sluggish system going. If its more then 2-3 days, flush with warm chamomile tea. You should have a healthy bowel movement after every meal.

    Symptom: Cramps, menstrual
    Herb: Various
Well, the best remedy isn’t an herb, its an orgasm :) For the simple fact of relieving tension, and contracting the uterus (which, after all, is what the cramps are attempting to do) to press out the tissue and blood until it flows by itself. It also releases plenty of chemicals into the body, happy makers, so to speak, and natural pain killers. Another great relieve is a hot bath (you could always, like, combine the two, hehe) or hot water bottle, in a pinch. Herbally: Cramp bark, lobelia tincture (take as needed), and as a long term solution, stinging nettle tea, 2-3 times a day, and cramps disappear within a few months at the most. My personal favorite for ANY type of cramps, even the nasty toe curlers, is our Anti-Spasmodic Tincture mix. (see product pages, rec is displayed). Works within 5 minutes (usually faster).

    Symptom: Cuts and Bleedings
    Herb: Varioys
Bruise a fresh yarow leaf and press it to the spot for a few minutes. Wound Wash: In 1/2 cup water mix 5 drops each lavender and tea tree oil. Dip cotton wool in the mixture and swab the area until clean of dirt and other impurities.
Clove infusion (slowboil whole cloves for 10 minutes, use cooled liquid) takes the pain and disinfects.
To heal deep wounds: Echinacea Root, Goldenseal Leaf, and Myrrh Gum (mix into salve). Fast healer is comfrey, but beware: Heals surface too fast on deep wounds, and can cause abscess, and should only be used a few days after the E/G/M mix. Shepherd’s Purse stops bleedings on contact.

    Symptom: Decubitus (Bed Sores)
    Herb: Various
Prevention: Constant (Every 1-2 hours) shifting of weight from side to side to back. Hot and cold therapy to increase circulation (blow dryer/ice cube), cayenne crème (same reason), and bedding patient onto real sheep skin in the raw (relieves pressure and irritation)
Reversing: Slippery Elm & Honey Paste, Comfrey root poultice packed (dried root in aloe gel, for example) into wound (only if no infections is present, otherwise that is treated first)/ Change once a day, clean with hydrogene poroxide.

    Symptom: Diarrhea
    Herb: Various
Shred an apple, peal and all, and allow air to turn it brown, then eat.
Eat chopped, fresh Garlic several times a day (just a tad bit). Black tea, 3 cups per day. I’d add honey to kill off any invasive bacteria causing the runs. And an immediate, best ever cure: 1 teaspoon slippery elm powder and 1 teaspoon betonit clay (food grade), mix into a paste like flour, then thin with juice so you can get it down. Usually stops the runs within an hour or two, in really bad cases take another does 6 hours later. Works suavely without any side effects (other then a bit of constipation if you overdosed, hehe) on children, elderly, weak, and PETS (yeeyyyy). Doesn’t taste too bad either. If you’re more food oriented, apple sauce will work as well, just not as fast. Take a portion every few hours for a day or two. Eat bananas.

    Symptom: Dislocated Joint
    Herb: Bear’s Breech (Acanthus mollis)
Apply paste and the joint will soon relocate to its proper place. Also soothing for mucous membranes, digestive and urinary tracts.

    Symptom: Ear Infection
    Herb: Various
Best and fastest: Hydrogen Poroxide, fill each year once an hour and leave in until bubbly sensation stops completely, then drain.
    Plantain tincture.
Crush one fresh organic garlic clove into 3 TBS olive oil, leave 24 hrs, strain, add few drops every hour. If you have a serious ear ache caused by an infection, look up the ear owie oil ingredients on the product page :) Nothing better then Mullien oil with lavender and garlic and a few other gizmos.

    Symptom: Eyes, tired/itchy
Herb: Cool(black)tea bags, raw potato or cucumber slices, various
cover the eyes with any of them, and lie down in a darkened room. Be sure to keep the eyes closed! Keep on as long as you feel comfortable with it.
Castor oil relieves irritation and makes more comfortable. Add a drip into the eye.
Eyenbright Formula helps with floaters and other common deseases, i.e. pink eye etc.
Cotton balls soaked in strong rosehip tea reduce swellings and bags under eyes.
    > Eyebright treats infections and afflictions, such as pink-eye. The herb strengthens the eys and helps to repair damage.
For pinkeye / styx, use Colloidial Silverwater every few hours. It will be gone overnight (I use internally AND externally)

    Symptom: Gas
    Herb: Various
Fennel tea and sees to chew on. Crushed cadome seeds are also said to work. But my favorite fast solution: Ginger ale :) (I supposed you could chew the ginger, but I don't like the straight taste)

    Symptom: Glands, Thyroids
    Herb: Various in Combination
Cut up fresh Marjoram and place in bottle, cover with olive oil. Leave them in a warm place (sunsteeping is good) for at least 10 days before using. Leaves may remain in oil until used up. Rub the oil on your affected glands, then cover with following poultice:

Collect Plantago Lanceolata (Latin), common name: Plantain, Greater or Ribworth. Both, the slim leave variation and the common broad leave variation work. Crush the leaves on a wooden board with a wooden pin (or whatever else you can find. But NO metal tools please, wood only). The crushed mix is then applied on top of the oil treated skin as a poultice. Cover with cloth and leave four applied for 4 hours. Reapply at least daily.

Simultaneously, take one tablespoon of plantain syrup prior to each meal, three times a day.

Recipe for syrup: Two heaped double handfuls of washed leaves put through a mincer. To this add water so it does not burn, 300 gram of raw sugar, and 250 gram of honey. Stir constantly on a low heat until this mixture is thick-flowing and bottle. Keep in refrigerator.

On top of that, drink herbal blood cleansing tea (minimum of two cups a day): even mix of POT marigold (calendula), stinging nettle, red clover, burdock root, and yarrow.
For Thyroids: Kelp, Bladderwrack, or Licorice root and other things with high mineral content. Warning: No licorice with high bloodpressure!!

I successfully treated Hypothyroidism in a friend with the following formula from The Scientific Validation of Herbal Medicine by Daniel Mowrey...

    2 parts Gentian
    1 part Red pepper
    1 part saw palmetto
    1/2 part mustard seed.
(1/2 a dropperful 3 times a day 10 minutes before before meals then, I also gave her a seperate tincture of Gotu Kola simple. 1 dropperful 2 times a day morning and afternoon). In her case, she had severe hpothyroidism and was also taking medication. the medication was not working, and with this addition it worked. She resumed an active life (she was sleeping all day and not working and loosing weight) and now holds down a job......Love Penny

    **************

You may want to look into Guggalu (Yogaraja) - commiphora mukul Resin.
It strengthens the thyroid and raises the blood levels of thyroid hormone. It improves state of mind by counteracting melatonin which is a pineal hormone often implicated with depression. It does a ton more too. (this was taken from Thornes guide to herbal extracts).

Bladderwrack plant (fucus versiculosus) is said to be good for under active Thyroids, as is kelp. Both are high in iodine, which is needed for thyroid to function as well as for pituitary and pineal glands. Take 1tsp per day along with vitamin E…..Love, Vicki

    Symptom: Gout
    Herb: Juniper Berries, Burdock
Eating 10-20 juniper berries a day gets rid of the crystals (note: only if there are no kidney problems!). Burdock root decoction, 1 teaspoon 3x a day helps fast. Bloodtest show an improvement at day 3 (thanks Zookie, for that tidbit). Another gout formula: ¼ oz Skullcap, ¼ oz Valerian root, ½ oz Yarrow flowers, ½ oz nettles. Steep 5 minutes in non-aluminium pan, 2 tsp per 8 oz water, take 4x per day, use NO sweetener whatsoever! No meats, sweets, coffeine, chocolate, legumes, or alcoholic beverages! Drink lots of water and juice. 1 tsp of charcoal 4x a day during active attacks.
Green Pharmacy says celery seed extracts daily or 4 celery stalks a day for 1 week. Encyclopedia of Medicinal Plants Andrew Chevallier says Take celery tablets, or make a decoction with the seeds. Divide into 3 doses & drink during the day or add 25 g of seeds to food per day.

Symptom: Hair Loss (same goes for nail problems)
    Herb: Various
Stinging nettle root tincture is used for many causes:

To tickle new hair to grow, work into the scalp at least daily, better 2-3 times daily.
Olive Oil: Massage into scalp (leave overnight) 8 days in a row.
Jojoba oil, apply as hotpacks (warm oil, soak hair, wrap in towel, keep as long as you can, minimum 1 hour, wash out gently). Eat silica (cold infused horsetail tea, for example, contains the most if you don’t want to take supplements) and blackstrap molasses (for calcium, TBS or more per day).

    Symptom: Headache
Herb: Chamomile, sage, rosemary, peppermint, wormwood
Herbal teas made of any of the above will do nicely. I usually use a combination of whatever is available at the time....
For heat related headaches: Apply a paste of freshly grounded horsereddish on a damp cloth and apply to neck for 1/2 hour.
You might wanna check the migraine section, there’s great advise there too..

    Symptom: Hemorrhoids
    Herb: Various
Castor oil softens them. But I achieved best results with a salve made of equal parts of raspberry leaves and yarrow flowers. Lately I add Marshmallow root. See salves page for recipe.
Witch hazel pads also helps. But the best, and fastest? Yarrow tea. 2 cups 3 times a day when active (will be reduced in a few days, gone from 1-3 weeks, depending on the severances and age of the h’s). If you continue to drink a cup 2-3 times a week, they’ll never come back. Ask me how I know :) Even if you forget, if you feel them coming, and turn to yarrow immediately, you are usually able to stop them. (thank you JUNE, I’ll be forever in your debth!). For severe cases: 2 capsules yarrow and 2 capsules horse chestnut, twice a day, and as much yarrow tea that you can handle.

    Symptom: Immune System, weak
    Herb: Various
The daily intake of several supplements during the cold season can prevent ever contracting an illness in the first place. Once sick, these will also help the body to fight the infection much, much faster:
Ecchinacea or Black Eyed Susan (B.E.S. if you can get it. Same principle, but stronger then Echi), Zinc, Vitamin E & C. If you're allready 'bugged', here's a first aid remedy:)
    Fist aid Immune System Booster

    Properties: anti-viral/anti-biotic/anti-bacterial/anti-septic/anti-fungal
(power pack to stop immediate symptoms and kick system in gear)

500 mg Vitamin C every hour
(CAN cause slight diarrhea…. If so (very very rare), lower dose, eat chocolate :)
15 mg zinc twice daily (careful, only AFTER meal)
    L-lysine (as directed on jar)
Additionally, as much Echinacea (either tincture, capsules or tea) and garlic
(preferably fresh and organic, but capsules will do) as you can remember to swallow
Probiotics (life culture joghurt, acidophilus, bifidus, etc)

This usually rights the system within half a day or so…. Continue taking until symptoms are gone, at least twice a day. Drink kombucha tea (not only when sick), its one of the bestest natural antibiotics Momma provides….

    Symptom: Infection, Minor Wound
    Herb: Cloves
Put a tablespoon of cloves in a cup of boiling water, let it sit for one hour, bathe infected area. It will kill germs and stop the pain. Place leftovers in a jar, cloves and all, to use again later.
For major battle, see First Aid Miracle Herbs .
Sugar also draws out infections, as does chickweed and plantain (best used together) plant pulp.

    Symptom: Insomnia
    Herb: Various
Wood Betony and Chamomille, mixed as a tea, boil 2 minutes, then steep 13 more minutes. (its bitter, add honey for taste). Said to know out within 5minutes. Also, valerian and passion flower for their calming effects. OR: 1 pinch catnip, 3 pinches catnip, 1 cup hot water, steep 3 minutes and sweeten if desired (NOT with sugar, mind you… if you wish sweeter taste, add licorice root).

    Symptom: Kidney Stones
    Herb: Various
Drink lots of horsetail tea, drunk while sitting in horsetail sitbathes (cover kidneys, but leave upper body out of water)Old herbals mention Crane's Bill (Geranium robertanium), sweet violet and bearberry (urva ursi) as an efrective and safe remedy for stones. However, bearsberry's high tannin content is not always well tolerated and vomiting, nausea, and loss of appetite may occur. Pear leaves can be used instead. Beneficial: Tea made from 20 grams each of Birch leaves, Agrimony, Rest-harrow and Shepherd's Purse. I would also add gravel root via tincture, after all, it is THE gravel/stone remedy.
From Jamie: The Master Cleanse - Lemonade Diet also works well for stones. I have a family member who did this and worked like a charm. 2 Tblsp Organic fresh squeezed lemon juice, 1 Tblsp Organic grade B Real Maple Syrup, Spring Water. Add minum of 1/4 teaspoon cayenne. There is a booklet out at most health food stores "The Master Cleanse"

    Symptom: Chapped, rough Lips
    Herb: Various
Make a salve over low heat from the following ingrediences: 90 ml sweet almond, jojoba, or castor oil (I prefer to mix ALL of them, taking 30 ml each, hehe), 15 ml beeswax, 10 ml pure honey, 10 drops spearmint of peppermint E.O. for taste (optional), and 10 drops tea tree oil. Add the honey only after the other ingredients are blended and removed from heat. Stir occasionally while cooling to prevent separation. Note: Essential oils are only added after it’s almost cooled down. Calcium. L-lysine, vitamin C and B vitamins, zinc, flaxseed oil, lots of fluid, internally.

    Symptom: Liver Damage, malfunction
    Herb: Various
Eyebright (Euphrasia officinalis) stimulates the liver to remove toxins from the body.
Milk Thystle and one of its components, Silymarin, is one of the most potent liver medicines, as it inhibits free radicals and stimulates protein action to repair damaged cells and grow new ones. Dandelion is excellent for hepatitis because it contains high amounts of vitamins, minerals, protein, pectin, insulin and choline. It aids bile flow which decongests the liver. Artichoke is good for protection and regeneration. The spice Tuneric has liver healing properties. Common Club Moss is what I used myself, and saved my cat with (total liver and kidney failure)
Fresh is best, but all herbs can be used tinctured or dried/capsuled. Dose recommendation:
Dandelion: 250-500 mg (dried root: 4 gm, fluid: 4-8 ml)
    Milk Thystle: 70-210 mg 3x a day
Globe artichoke (Cynara scolymus): Dried leaves 4-6 gm

    Symptom: Lymphatic congestions
    Herb: Chapparral
From a fellow herbalist (Marion): For lymphatic congestion and swelling, used a rather strong infusion, about 6-8 ounces three times a day for about one week, then switched over to capsules (500 mg) ground herb, 2 capsules three times a day for another week. It worked rather well for me. I did add some peppermint to the infusion though, since I thought the taste rather bitter

    Symptom: Menopause, Hotflashes, irritation
    Herb: various
Evening Primrose capsules, 2 each time a flash comes on. And liters and liters of celestial seasonings tension tamer tea mix :=)

    Symptom: Excessive Bleeding, Anemia
    Herb: Various
Black Cohosh, 1 capsule per day. White Nettle (only the flowers). Cranesbill, Shepherd’s Purse, Periwinkle, and Lady’s Mantle are all reputed herbs for women, and you just use the one that suits you the best. Personally, my choice is Shepherd’s Purse and Lady’s Mantle, simply because they are the gentlest without side effects and grow right outside our doorsteps:). Janet suggested: 8 caps Alfalfa and 1 oz liquid chlorophyll per day during your cycle. I don’t see how that will cure, but it will at least supplement the body. My favorite is yarrow, as it regulates bleeding inside and out.

    Symptom: Migrane
    Herb: Various
Several possibilities: Take vitamin E and brewers yeast (1 tablespoon powerder/day). Some swear that sniffing vinegar will kill a beginning migrane, others get relief from using a hair dryer on medium heat at the first sign of a headache, and allowing the heat to sooth them. Feverfew also helps, but as a side effect gives you stronger menstruation. 250mg of feverfew in pill form (brand name: herbal factors. You can ground down the herb and fill gel capsules with it. Take more when the weather is bad, air pressure can be a big trigger. Here are several remedies collected from other herbalists:
#1 Mix equal parts of vinegar and water and bring to a boil. Inhale the fumes for several minutes. Repeat as needed.
#2 This is a natural pain killer good for migraines. Chop 1 tablespoon of stinking iris and add to 1 pint of water. Boil gently for 15 minutes. Strain and take up to 3 tablespoons per day. Has a slight laxative effect so you may want to weaken it further.
#3 At the first sign of a headache, make a strong cup of regular coffee, adding 1 tablespoon of lemonjuice. The caffeine acts as a diuretic and helps some migraine suffers. Black coffee is also good for asthma or bronchial spasms.
#4 Put 2 tablespoons of dried nettle (substitute peppermint if allergic to nettle) in 2 cups of milk. Simmer for 10 minutes. Strain and sweeten with honey. Drink while warm.
Some people swear that milk can cause severe headaches. Worth a try. Substitute with i.e. soymilk for a few weeks and see what happens.

    Symptom: Moskito Bite
    Herb: Several
Apply baking soda and parsley paste (add a little water to smoothen).
Apply a paste of salt and vinegar.
    Apply soap.
    Apply Myrrh oil

    Symptom: Multiple Sclerosis
    Herb: Various
Press fresh lemon The only offical 'herb' recommended is Evening Primrose oil, taken in capsule form, to restore the degenerated nerves and coat the nerve endings. MS support groups swear by relief with colloidial silver water, but as usual, the most important approach is to stay away from all additives and 'bad' living substances, and do a complete cleanse program of all systems. Details, as usual, on the studygroup, and eventually on the 'life' pages of this site. I'd also have a close look at Dr. Schulze's Nerve Regeneration Formula (the recipe can be found on the commercial portion of this site, Healing Breezes, linked from the main page)font>

    Symptom: Nosebleed
    Herb: Various
Place an icepack in the neck (cold cloth alternatively). Cotton plugs moistened with Witchhazel, or Shepherd’s Purse Tincture (will stop bleeding on contact, also for razor burns, but oww). Drink Yarrow tea take the tincture.

    Symptom: Osteoporosis, Achy bones
    Herb: Various
Eat 100 gram Stinging Nettles per day (alternatively tea, if you must), lightly sautéed, yum! Oatstraw is one of the bestest herbs too. Cold infuse overnight, and drink in the morning and throughout the day.

    Symptom: Pneumonia
    Herb: Thyme, Coldsfoot
Drink Thyme tea. Prepared fresh 4-5 times a day, a big sip is taken every hour. Coldsfoot tea with honey is good for all lung deseases. Sweden bitters should also be taken.
Emphazema: Mallow tea, 3-4 cups a day, and also the Thyme tea and swedenbitters. The above also goes for the coughing and such. Thyme is a miracle cure....

    Symptom: Poison Ivy
    Herb: Mugworth plant
Mugworth plant juice stops the itching of poison oak. Jewelweed juice, if applied right away (not after the rash appeared).

Symptom: Enlarged Prostate Gland (for stones or cancer, please see Duke’s Green Pharmacy
    Herb: Various
Black Strap Molasses is reputed to be an instant cure. In the ‘olde’ country, renowned healers like Maria Treben swore by Willowherb (often mixed with yarrow and nettle roots). American Healers worship Saw Palmetto (berries, made into tincture or extract) and create yummy recipes like Prosnut butter:
½ cup of fresh pumpkin seeds
1 saw palmetto capsule (the powder within, of course)
a few drops of liquid licorice extract
Brazil nut oil (to make the whole thing into a pleasant paste)
Put in blender until smooth, eat 2 TBS per day on crackers.
Keep in mind though, that very often Prostate problems are the symptom. The PROBLEM could be the kidneys, and a kidney/bladder tea to flush and cleanse out toxins is never wrong. You might be surprised what other symptoms you’ll loose.

    Symptom: Psoriasis
    Herb: Cleavers (Galium aparine)
Try a salve, or even a dilute tincture or a strong infusion (tea). When you use dried herbs, make an infused oil , then a salve. For many more details Go to Life Altering Illness Page

Symptom: Skin, itchy or irritated, Rash, or Scars
    Herb: Several Options
Antiseptic bath: Peppermint, rosemary, thyme, eucalyptus.
Itchy skin bath: Lavender, orange peel, thyme, mint, sage, rosemary, comfrey root, cloves, rose leaf.
Rash: Fresh comfrey and chickweed, also cooked up and soaked into a piece of cotton (like tea).
For scarring: Rosehip oil soothes and lightens scars.
Chickweed moistens skin and has drawing qualities, also anti itching.
The milk of dandelions, mixed into a lotion, will perk up old, wrinkly skin.
Rosehip oil prevents or reduces scarring, so does pure cocoa butter
Balm of Gilead salve draws cancer out through the skin due to the active ingredient of Sanguinaria Canadensis. Evening Primrose oil, mixed with St. John’s Wort oil and avocado oil soothes. Gardener’s Dream Cream is said to be great: www.aromacrystal.com
Internally: Lots of Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids will make skin soft and healthy.
But – remember that skin problems are the symptoms of internal trouble. Most often, a blood cleanse and kidney flush will solve the condition. The body is loaded with toxins, and trys to expel them through the skin. Help with the following herbal teamix: Burdock root, Red Clover Blossoms, Stinging Nettles, Cleavers, Yarrow. Prepare as tea or tincture. Unless your cause is a contact allergy, this often does the trick. Of course, you also have to eliminate the cause. Check your life style, and the skin pages in our life altering disease section.

    Symptom: Sunburn
    Herb: Several Options
For a soothing lotion chop an unpeeled cucumber into milk and simmer. Cool and apply to the affected area. Aloe sap can also take the worst edge off. For severe burns, apply (in clean linnens) cooling pads.
St. John’s Wort oil is another option, as is aloe vera and comfrey in any form. Avocado and Wheatgerm oil make good carriers for the others in this case.

Symptom: Tooth & Gums, Ache and Decay
    Herb: Various
Peppermint oil in a carrier rubbed on the skin – outside- brings some releave. Test for sensitive skin first, it can hurt like hades.
Clove oil is supposed to help, but usually irritates the skin immensely; I only list it to warn of it, as it seems to be recommended often. Better gently chew a whole clove and press onto infected area.
    Drink warm mint tea.
Apply swedenbitters, as often and as long as you can manage. I personally saved/cured a very bad tooth with it. Application hurts, but it is a ‘good’ pain, like slowly burning the pain away, if that makes any sense. I use a Q-tip or a small medical tampon to apply on infected area for several minutes, at least once an hour.
Calcium intake calms the nerves (which are after all responsible for the pain)
Feverfew tincture (or chew a fresh leave) is another option.
Best pain relieve is IPIAC, carried in most larger stores that have a good drug section. I found it in the dental care area too.
Mouthwash and/or teas: Oak bark is an astringent and high in calcium, and will tighten the gums. Myrhh is an antibiotic. White willow bark for pain, a natural source of aspirin. The cut oak bark seems to make a better tea, but get myrhh gum already powdered (it’s sticky as heck).
But the best, AND to save teeth (thanks Penny): Dr. Schultze's Tooth and Gum Formula: Tooth & Gum Potion (recipe also posted on the Healing Breezes portion, linked from main page)

    Symptom: Throat, sore
    Herb: Various
Press fresh lemon juice several times a day and allow to ran down throat slowly. Desinfects and helps with the infection. Here a a few gargles, contributed by Thalia, thanks bunches :)

To flush away phlegm and to ease pain, gargle for 10 seconds:

Salt Water: Stir 1 teaspoon salt into a cup of warm water.

Sage: Put 2 teaspoons dried leaves in 1 cup boiling water, steep 10 minutes, then cool until warm.

Lemon: Mix the juice of one lemon in one cup warm water.

Raspberry Leaf: Put 2 tsp raspberry leaf in 1 cup boiling water, steep 10 minutes, strain and cool until warm.

Peppermint Leaves: Peppermint leaves will make the other herbs in this blend more effective. It has an ability to clear congested nasal passages and improve breathing.

Cayenne Pepper: Mix the juice of half a lemon, 1 tbsp salt and 1/2 tsp cayenne in 1/2 cup warm water. Cayenne reduces the pain-causing chemicals produced by nerves in the throat.

Symptom: Thyroids, over or under function
    Herb: Various
Thanks Penny, for the contribution: I have had experience with hyperthyroidism and herbs work GREAT in conjunction with medication. They actually help the medication to work and cut down the side effects and the amount of medication. Tincture of Gentian, Red Pepper, Kelp , and saw palmetto (in equal parts) add some mustard seed. Then I made a simple of Gotu Kula. Start on the Gotu Kula. this has to be pulsed 1 dropperful morning and mid afternoon. After a week, start the mixed tincture, also pulsed (one week every three weeks only taking one tincture) have kelp every day , as well as a radish at every meal.
Walnut oil for salads and eat walnuts. Walnuts apparently increase the levels of thyroxine.

    Symptom: varicose
Herb: Horse Chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum), and more
The extract derived from the horse chestnut seeds gives varicose veins a kick. It reduces venous insufficiency which is the result of vessel blockage. It also reduces leg pain, leg circumference, and itching. Usually gel is also widely available. Also take vitamin E, 800 IU daily, and supplemental coenzyme Q10, 100 mg daily, to improve circulation and tissue oxygenation. Burdock root is soothing as poultice or added to bathes. Here’s another one
    1 quart water
    2 tablespoons dandelion root
1 teaspoon each marjoram and oregano
Simmer dandelion root in covered pot for 10 minutes. Add spices, stir, cover again, and simmer another 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to sit 20 minutes, strain, sweeten with honey to taste, and drink 1 cup three times daily, between meals. Allow a few weeks for veins to fade.

    Symptom: Warts
    Herb: Several
Linseed oil, applied with cotton ball and left for several days. Raw potato. Celandine or Dandelion stem juice (fresh). Thuja oil. Wheat germ oil. Castor oil. Cotyledon succulent (pig’s ear): remove the cellulose skin from the leaf and then cut a slice of the leaf. Place over the wart, before going to bed at night, and secure. Next morning remove plaster. The wart will be soft and soggy, gently scrape off a little of the top, reapply the next night. Repeat until whole wart is gone. Or apply a slice of bloodroot (sanguinaria canadensis) changing the slice daily for a few days, wart will turn black and begin to shrink over the next few weeks. OR apply Fig juice from a fresh leaf stem, (just the wart, not the surrounding skin) several times a day for a week or two. I have a sworn testimony they went away, and never came back :) Another remedy, this one backed by a fellow herbalist and Culpepper: Milk from the stems of the leaves or branches of the fig tree (Ficus carica), dropped upon warts takes them away. And from Penny (only you love-lol): Stick a bone knife into an unripe paw paw aka Papaya (Carica Papaya) and the white juice that comes out put on any skin growth. It will eat it away (gently scrape off dead skin and reapply as often as needed). Wear gloves or the ends of your fingers will get very tender PawPaw contains a substance that eats away protein (you can test this by wrapping a steak into a leaf for a few hours and shudder at the results). Jamie sez: Soak in apple cider vinegar (trial run by granny with planters wart worked) , 20 minutes per day. Gone in 2 weeks.

    Symptom: Weightloss
    Herb: Various
    6 parts chickenweed (stellaria media)
4 parts saffron (crocus sativus)(can be substituted with 2 pts. peppermint/1 pt slippery elm)
3 parts Burdock root (arctium lappa)
3 parts parsley root (petroselinim crispum)
3 parts kelp (laminaria saccharina or fucus vesiculosis)
2 parts echinacea (echinacea angustifolia ; E. purpurea)
2 parts black walnut (juglans nigra)
    2 parts licorice glycyrrhiza glabra)
    2 parts fennel (foeniculum vulgare)
    2 parts papaya (carica papaya)
1 part hawthorne berries (crataegus laevigata)

Fill you own capsules and take 2 or 3 morning and night with a cup of chickweed tea (or chickweed capsules).

    Symptom: Yeast Infection
    Herb: Various
Yeast infections often happen after antibiotica treatments which destroys our natural bacteria. Eat Acidophilus, bifidus, or other human friendly bacteria as found in Life cultured joghurt (also applied locally). Grapefruit seed extract orally, 3 or more capsules daily. To apply externally: Tea tree oil (HUUUURTS. Dillute very, very well!!!) applied via a soaked tampon and left overnight. Parc D'au tea as a douche or rinse. Apple Cider Vinegar douche 25% to distilled water. Insert a cut capsule of boric acid powder (this is a suggestion I have NOT tried myself yet….)Some 'radicals' (you know who you are, hehe) swear that shoving a freshly peeled clove of garlic shoved 'up there' will do the trick. Exchange once a day. I shudder :) Oh, and don't forget to treat the partner too. Men get it from you but don't show symptoms, hence giving it right back when you think it was safe again to..... I also use Colloidial Silverwater. Douche with it, and apply a moist cotton ball as a pad (or soaked tampon).
From Roxanne: This is not herbal but it works like a charm. Use gel caps to cap up boric acid (dry form found at any pharmacy) and use as a vaginal suppository. Insert 12 hours apart and I will tell you that you will find full relief in two treatments. You need a panty protector.
