I usually follow recommended dosage as given in David Hoffmann's "The New Holistic Herbal". For many of the herbs I use, I up the dose to 1/2 teaspoon, 3 times a day - like when I use peppermint, or echinacea for preventing full blown flu. The same goes for tonics I might make. |
1. Chop or grind fresh herb. Pack a jar to medium density with fresh herb. Leave 1" headroom. Fill jar to top with grain alcohol. 2. Screw lid firmly on jar. Label with common and botanical names of herb, menstruum used, date. Also list whether herb is fresh or dried and part of herb used. 3. Store in a cool, dark place for 2-6 weeks, shaking daily. Decant and use by diluting drops in water. 1. This method is used for dried plants. The best tinctures are made from fresh plants, with the exception of roots, barks, berries and leathery leafed plants. 2. Fill a jar 1/5 full of chopped or ground dried herbs, NOT powdered. 3. Cover with clear wheat grain alcohol. Follow directions as above. Glycerin is used as a menstruum when alcohol is not desired. The sweet principle of oil, vegetable glycerin is best to use. Its solvent strength is somewhere between alcohol and water. It is especially useful as a menstruum for tannin-containing herbs. Glycerin will not dissolve or mix with oils or resins, so do not use with resinous or oily herbs. It is slightly antiseptic and anti-fermentive. Undiluted, it is an irritant and stimulant. Diluted, it is demulcent, soothing and healing. Because it absorbs water from the air, it is moisturizing. Glycerin is sweet-tasting, making it a good menstruum for children's formulas. It does not evaporate at normal temperatures and produces a warm sensation to the skin and tongue. There are several methods for making glycerites, but the simplest one follows: 1. Mix 75% glycerin with 25% distilled water. 2. Fill a jar with fresh herb, packed to medium density, or fill 1/5 full with dried herb. 3. Pour glycerin menstruum over herb in jar. Fill to top of jar, covering herbs. 4. Macerate 2-6 weeks, shaking often. Strain and bottle. Store in a dark place. Shelf life is 1-3 years, depending upon water content of fresh plant used. Note: Some fresh plants contain so much water already, that the addition of water has to be reduced or is not necessary at all. Adjust accordingly. Again, this is a learning progress …. You can also add more glycerine to the finished product, although that dilutes the strength. Shelf life depends on the concentration. The higher the glycerine contents, the longer the shelf life. Between 1-3 years, depending. 1. The Dr. Edward Shook Method from Advanced Treatise on Herbology 8 oz powdered herb 2 quarts distilled water ¼ oz potassium sulphate 8 oz glycerine Dissolve the potassium sulphate in water, add the herb, and simmer until liquid is reduced to 1 quart. Strain, and again add enough water to jut cover the herb. Simmer this for 10 minutes. Stain, combine the two liquids, add glycerin, blending thoroughly. Cool the mixture, bottle in amber-colored bottles, and store in a cool place. 2. The ‘other’ method 200 gm powdered herb 480 ml glycerine 320 ml distilled water Mix glycerin and water, add to powdered herb, stir well, cap container tightly and shake frequently for 14 days. Strain, press out and store in amber-colored bottle in a cool place. |
Formula: 16 oz of distilled water to 4 oz of herbs. Soak herbs 4 hours or more, then simmer on very low heat in covered saucepan or double boiler for 30 minutes. Strain decoction into uncovered clean pan and simmer down to 1/4 of the original amount. The end result should be 4 oz of extract. Keep refrigerated or use natural anti-oxidants like glycerine, or a few drops of alcohol, for example. |
Floaters are caused by minute pieces of protein matter (cellular debris) in the viscous fluid within the eyeball. Floaters very quickly and permanently disappeared by doing a thorough Intestinal Cleanse and Liver/Gallbladder Flush/Cleanse in addition to using a special tincture applied directly to the eyes.
Eyebright Formula is as follows: 1 part Eyebright Herb 1 part Red Raspberry Leaf 1 part Goldenseal Root 1 part Rue Flower 1 part Mullein Flower 1 part Fennel Seed & 1/8th part Cayenne Pepper (hottest you can find = Habanero) In a base of 50% alcohol 50% water or 100 Proof Vodka. Fill your tincture jar from 2/3rds to 3/4ers full of the herbs. Blend the herbs in a blender with your alcohol mixture and let stand in a dark room for a minimum of 14 days. A part is by volume not by weight. It is best to make this tincture on the New Moon and to press it on the Full Moon. Use only 1 to 10 drops in an eye cup and fill the remaining space with distilled water. Start with 1 drop and work up to 10 as this is a warm mixture. Place over eye and open and close your eye for a minute or two while moving eye up, down and to both sides. |

For receeding, rotting gums and teeth, diseased dental bone |
Ingredients: 10 oz Echinacea Tincture ¼ cup Tea tree oil 4 oz Bayberry tincture 2 oz Oak Gall (or 3x oak bark) tincture 2 tbs Cayenne tincture 2.5 dropperfuls Peppermint oil 2.5 dropperfuls Clove oil Shake well before use. Note: Dropperful = ½ way up the dropper. Use organic ingredients. |
Apply directly to gums, or swish around the mouth with water (dropperful into 1 ounce of water). Twice a day at least. |
The formulator of this formula, Dr. Richard Schulze, says "The Echinacea tincture deadens the pain immediately – when you get it down into your gum line. It also is a surface disinfectant and stimulates your immune system to start working against bacteria that is down in there. The bayberry is one of the stronger astringents,
so it will take that gum tissue and literally tighten it right up in front of your eyes. . . . " Oak is also an astringent. "Oh yes, peppermint is a very strong disinfectant, and it’s a very strong circulatory stimulant. Dr. Christopher even listed it next to cayenne in his School of Natural Healing under circulation stimulants. Peppermint also reduces inflammation, so it’s a great one for curing
dental diseases." "For receding, infected or rotting gums, diseased dental bone, teeth in danger of removal – use this formula . . ." From an interview with Sam Biser. Biser: Now let’s go to gum problems. You just helped a friend of mine cure an incurable gum condition. Let’s explain what happened and what you did, so readers could get identical cures themselves. Schulze: Certainly. Your friend was scheduled to have all his upper teeth removed immediately. For him, it was dangerous, because he was a diabetic and prone to uncontrolled bleeding. He took Vitamin C for his gums, but it was useless. His teeth wobbled up and down, and blood dripped down his throat from the infected gums. His lifelong dentist was so afraid of a blood clot going to the brain, he sent the patient to a second dentist. He said he couldn’t live with himself if something went wrong, i.e. death. You told me about the problem, and I sent by overnight express a mixture I made up. I instructed your friend to put 90 drops into a water pik, to drive the solution deep into the gums. Within a day, the gums were 50% better. Within a week, 90% cured. Gums firm, pain gone. His dentist was baffled – because your friend didn’t tell about the herbs; he just told the dentist that he had "prayed". "I’ve never seen anybody go longer than 2 or 3 days with the dental formula and not have their gum bleeding stop." Usage suggestions: The formula is strong but can be applied directly to the gums. You can take a small sip and swish it around in your mouth. Most people prefer to put a dropperful (35 drops) into an ounce of water and use as a mouth wash or put about 8 to 12 drops on a wet tooth brush and brush their teeth. Do not rinse your mouth! Dr. Schulze suggests: "Put it in a water pik. A water pik is the greatest way to introduce herbal extracts into your teeth and gums. Buy a water pik, fill it with distilled water, put two, four, six, or even eight dropperfuls of this tooth and gum mixture into the water pik. Start it off on the low setting, but then work over weeks to raise it to its highest setting. Do this twice a day. Anybody who has bleeding gums: do this for two days, and your gums will stop bleeding." Important note: Also, when you’re done, rinse about 10 seconds of clear water through the water pik, because the tea tree and peppermint oils will burn out all the gaskets in the machine. No one else will tell you that – because they have no practical experience with herbs. If you don’t rinse it out in two weeks, you won’t have an $80 machine anymore, because it’s all leaking and falling apart. That’s because these oils disintegrate rubber – and the gaskets in the machine are rubber. Personally, I dip a kid’s (small and soft) toothbrush into it and massage the gums at least once a day. Lately, I’ve taken to apply this tinc to cancer sores and the likes, and the result is amazing!! If you don’t want to make your own (oak gall can’t be bought, it has to be wildcrafted, for example) check out my recipe pages, where I list what I sell…. I usually have enough to give up at least one or two bottles….. although it is precious, as galls are so hard to find these days…. Don’t freak, the ingrediences and hence the final product is quite expensive… worth its weight in gold tho…. |
This recipe is extracted from ![]() Health From God's Pharmacy (also try: Health From God's Garden) A little over forty years ago, the Austrian Herbalist, Maria Treben was given a small bottle of strong smelling liquid along with a handwritten copy of an old manuscript. The manuscript explained, in forty-six specific applications, the extraordinary power of this elixir. The 250 year old formula has been attributed to a Swedish doctor named Samst, who lived to the age of 104 before he died - from a horseback riding accident! In the manuscript, the formula was called Elixir ad longam vitam. Was this the same ancient elixir painstakingly passed down from antiquity? Many herbalists believe it was. Today, this formula is known as Swedenbitters. The Importance Of The Bitter Taste A bitter taste has a profound effect on your digestive system, especially the liver, the keeper of metabolic balance within the body. The liver's job is to produce fluids required for proper and complete digestion, as well as to rid your system of dangerous toxins. Even if you eat a good natural diet, artificial ingredients and chemical residues can find their way into your system. It's so important to cleanse your body of these unwanted substances as soon as possible. The herbs dried, chopped or powdered, and set in 0.7 liters of at least 38-40 percent clear rye or wheat spirit (or if you must, Everclear or vodka, but rye is preferred) (watchout, I'm German....this means, 100% is pure medical alcohol and will kill you - 40 percent equals 80 proof) and left for of 2 weeks in a warm place. Longer steeping time makes the mixture stronger. I use a huge dark glass bottle with a cork. The best warm spot is, of course, in the sun. It seems to add extra power. Shake the mixture daily. Then filter into dark bottles and keep dark and cool for storage. The administering possibilities are endless, it is said to cure all evil spirits and poisons, inside and out. I have saved rotten teeth and inflamed gums (keep in mouth as long as you can bare...gargle, etc), open wounds which would refuse to close, olds scars which would not stop hurting, it bettered gray star, and can ease deafness, it's a great corn-remover if kept on wet until they fall out, and it sobers one up in a few minutes (but what ugly minutes) when taken internally. Generally, for any problem that does not require the immediate attention of a doctor, I try this first. If taken internally, thin with water about 1-3 and down a shot worth, externally protect skin with a thin layer of pot marigold (calendula officinalis) salve and keep the area damp, i.e. by using wet cotton balls. This stuff IS potent and has no qualms in taking your skin off along with the nasties, so please, don't forget the salve!! The original mixture of herbs is below, as is the original old scroll. |
