The
Summit Lighthouse and
Church Universal and Triumphant
Council of Elders’
Organizational Structure Committee
October 4, 2002
Dear Friends on the Path,
The Organizational Structure Committee of the Council of Elders has been reviewing the governance of The Summit Lighthouse, Church Universal and Triumphant and looking for ways to improve our effectiveness. We have been studying the Teachings of the Masters and Mother and our organizational documents and recognize that it is crucial to write down the foundational principles that underpin our governance.
We presented ten principles to the Council of Elders. They agreed upon four of these principles. We did further research on the Masters and Messengers’ teachings that relate to them. Now we would like to share them with you and get your ideas and feedback. After considering your feedback we will be presenting the four proposed foundational principles to the Elders and the Board of Directors for their input. The Board, as our policy-making body, has the authority to approve and adopt foundational principles.
Please pray about and study the attached four principles. Then tell us, using the form provided, your comments. Please input your responses directly into the attached form. (Using this form will help us compile your responses.) If you have Internet access, please return your completed form to: derickson@tsl.org. If you do not have Internet access, please mail your form to Destyne Erickson, Box 5000, Gardiner MT, 59030-5000. We would appreciate receiving your responses by November 15, 2002.
We are sending this document to the Communication Facilitators in each teaching center and study group. They can then hold a discussion of these principles at a community meeting where your group may come to consensus and forward that input to us. If you are not affiliated with a teaching center, you are most welcome to send you comments directly to us.
Please note that these four principles are not intended to be all the principles for our organization. The committee will be continuing their research on this topic.
Our Presidents, Lois Drake and Kate Gordon, are also holding a Leadership Conclave on October 11 prior to the October conference in Seattle. There they will get input from elected leaders, which will provide further assistance for the work of the Elders’ Organizational Structure Committee and the entire organization.
Thank you for sharing your insights in this essential process.
Sincerely,
The Elders’ Governance and Spiritual Offices Committee:
