The Native American peoples who lived in the Plains area were the largest group of Native Americans.
They used the buffalo in all areas of their lives. The meat was used as food, the skin was used to make the tipi, their shelter, and also used to make their clothing. Other body parts, such as the stomach, were used for cooking containers. The hair was used to sew with and the bones were used as the needle.

The tipis used by the Native Americans were similiar to big tents. They were made of wooden poles which were used as a frame and then covered with buffalo hide. They were easy to take down and put up again. This was important since the Plains Indians were nomadic, they followed the buffalo.
