such time that I can prove my actions will be honorable.

*Safety first in everything, ask first if it’s dangerous *Buddy Rule - no one goes out of campsite alone. If found it will be confiscated. *No smoking *No alcohol *Fire pit is always monitored, designated fire guard is responsible *No one out of camp after lights out *Remember the Cadet Honor Code *No horseplay *Disrespect to others will not be allowed *No promiscuity or fraternization *Use common sense and think first By placing your name on the sign-up sheet, you indicate your acceptance of these rules.
General Information
-Introduction: By nature, the Squadron Training Weekend is a short, intense training exercise. It is designed to challenge the cadet physically and mentally. Credit for successful completion of a STW must be earned; it is not automatically granted for simply attending the encampment. -Reporting Procedures/In-processing: You are to report in Battle Dress Uniform to the Encampment Commander at the Squadron office building. All cadets will arrive and depart the host facility in uniform. Cadets may begin arrival at 9:00 am on Saturday, February 28. Reporting procedures are as follows: Get into a single file line and come to the position of parade rest. When it is time for you to move forward in line, come to attention, move forward until you stop, then again assume the position of parade rest. You will continue this process until you reach the officer’s desk. Position yourself 2 paces in front of the officers’ desk, come to attention, salute, and report: “Sir/Mam, cadet (your name) reporting for training.” Drop your salute only after the person you are reporting to has returned it. When your business is completed, salute, wait to have your salute returned, execute a facing movement, and proceed to the contraband check. -In Processing: Every cadet must go through in-processing in order to participate in the STW. Proper credit may not be granted if you are not properly in-processed. -Absence from Duty Only the STW commander, Commandant of Cadets, or the cadets’ Tac Officer may excuse cadets from duty or formations. Any cadet excused from duty or formations must notify his/her Flight Commander. At all formations, the Flight Commander will report all absences as directed. When a cadet misses a part of a training session, he/she will attend as much of the remaining portion as possible.
Organization
-Structure: The Squadron Training Weekend will be organized as a Cadet Training Squadron with subordinate flights and elements. The element is the basic training unit of the encampment. -Cadet Staff: The key cadet staff (CC, XO, 1Sgt) are selected by the STW Commander and Commandant of Cadets with input from the Squadron Commander. The staff will be made up of advanced cadets who have applied to the STW. All cadet staff members will have attended at least one previous encampment. -Tactical Officer: The Tactical Officer is a CAP Senior Member assigned to observe and ensure the health and welfare of flight members. Cadets should always follow the chain of command in resolving problems, but may go directly to the Tactical Officer in the event of an issue involving the safety and welfare of cadets. -Chain of Command: A cadet desiring to report to a higher level of command will do so through all intermediate echelons of command. If a cadet desires to talk to his/her Tac Officer, he/she may do so, at any time, by making a request to his/her Flight Sergeant or Flight Commander. The Encampment Commander and the Commandant of Cadets have an open door policy for issues of hazing or fraternization. All other problems should be handled within the Cadet Chain of Command or with the Tac Officer. -Customs and Courtesies: Cadets will briskly and silently remove headgear with right hand when entering a building. Cadets will salute all officers, senior or cadet, as defined in CAP regulations. Cadets will stand at attention when addressing or being addressed by a staff member unless the staff member directs otherwise. When asked a direct question, the answer will be clear brief and concise Basic cadets will not be seated in training or in vehicles until directed to do so. Cadets will use established reporting procedures when reporting to the Encampment Commander or Commandant of Cadets at the Squadron or Command tent.

Greetings from your encampment commander: Hello, I would like to welcome everyone to our winter ‘04 Squadron Training Weekend.
Our last Encampment that was held in September was a great success,
and I’d like to build upon that effort in this training exercise.
This will be the second STW for many of the members of the Sumter
Composite Squadron, and for those returning I would like to extend my
appreciation for your continued support in our program. I’d like to extend a
hearty welcome to the visitors of our training program from the other
invited squadrons. I would encourage each and everyone of you to take the
time to introduce yourselves, and become familiar with who each of us are.
Everybody will bring something different to add to the experience, and we
can all learn from each other.

It’s important that everybody maintains that “Positive Mental Attitude” that is
necessary to accomplish these events. Please feel free to add any
suggestions that you could see would benefit future training events. I look
forward to working with everyone involved in future activities, and hope
everyone leaves with a great sense of accomplishment. Again, welcome to
Sumter’s Squadron Training Weekend.

ROBERT P. BRYAN, 1Lt., CAP
