| Reasons for Self Injury Self-injury is associated with numerious mental disorders, such as depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, borderline personality disorder, and eating disorders. People may self injure because they feel too much, they feel too little, they need a distraction, they want to punish themselves, they can't express what they're feeling, they need a release, they need the escape, they want a feeling of euphoria, they want to confirm they're alive, they want to feel real, to take away emotional pain by inflecting physical pain and many other reasons. There is often more than one reason a person self-injures. Some people will become a self injure for attention, but it is not common. Most people who self injure do it because they don't want the emotional pain, so they inflict physical pain to take away the emotional pain so that they don't have it for awhile. It is hard for some people even the self injurer themself to understand why they do it, although must do know the main reason for self injury on them selves. It's easier just to not tell a person why they are injuring them selves because they know why and if you tell them way it will cause more confusion for the person with the SI. |
