The immediate aid was approved at a cabinet meeting, a government official said today. It includes $US27 million ($50.06 million) for a resettlement project for refugees and internally displaced persons. The aid forms part of a pledge by Tokyo to provide Afghanistan with up to $US500 million ($927.13 million) over the next two and a half years. The cash was promised in January when it hosted an international conference to support the reconstruction of Afghanistan. World leaders promised a total of $US4.5 billion ($8.34 billion) over the next five years.
