About IRNA Sitemap Links IRNA College Tourism ADS President Khatami: World in dire need of dialogue Tehran, Jan 28, IRNA -- President Mohammad Khatami has said here that the world is in dire need of dialogue and justice. He said negotiations must be held at national and international levels on the definition of justice and ways of its administration. According to a report released by the Press and News Department of the presidential office on Monday, President Khatami in an address to the first meeting of Arab-Iranian Friendship Association stressed the need for identification and removal of obstacles to dialogue between Muslim nations and the outside world. President Khatami expressed hope that the meeting will serve to facilitate dialogue among Muslim communities. Muslim scholars and experts must identify the common points shared by Muslim Ummah for the sake of dialogue, said President Khatami, adding that the world of Islam should stress spirituality, ethics and justice and strive for protecting the rights of people as recommended by Islam. The President said freedom is the most important right of human beings and any link between people's rights and justice should prepare the ground for a consensus on the meaning of a civil society. Elsewhere in his remarks, the President said the worst examples of human rights violations and injustice are seen in the occupied Palestine, where the worst form of terrorism is carried out by the usurper Zionist regime. "I believe protecting the rights and aspirations of Palestine is defense of the rights of human beings, justice and global peace and an opposition to war, suppression, violence and terror," said President Khatami. He said the issue of Palestine is the best issue on which the all scholars and experts from the world of Islam can hold talks and and reach a consensus. He said the warm welcome accorded worldwide to the idea of dialogue among civilizations indicates that such a dialogue the need of the hour in today's world. "We, as initiators of the idea, had better start dialogue before anyone else does it in order to solve our problems," announced the President. Some 70 Arab scientific and cultural figures as well as ambassadors of Arab countries to Tehran and a group of Iranian scholars attended the gathering.
