History

Unlike Canadian or U.S. history, there were no great battles or wars or treaties in wiccan history. Wiccans are just beginning to emerge and even now they are shunned from society.

The Salem Witch Trials
The Salem Witch Trials of 1692 were horrible for the witches of the world. Not only were witches hanged, but so were many innocent people. In total, 19 people were killed, (18 by hanging, and 1, Giles Corey, by pressing) 150 people were imprisoned, and 200 people were accused of being a witch.

The Inquisition
The Inquisition was one of the darkest times ever for witches everywhere. It lasted from 1330, through its peak in 1660, to 1736, when witchcraft was taken off the list of felonies. By 1350, 600 people had been burned for being a witch. Imagine how many people had been tortured, burned and killed by 1736?? In 1580, Jean Bodin gave the legal definition of a witch as "One who knowing God's law tries to bring about an act through an agreement with the devil."
