The sacred days in wicca are meant to celebrate what happens every year, not just on monumental, historical days. The sabbats are set in a circle.They celebrate the birth, growth, death and rebirth of the God, or the Horned One. It is also called the Wheel of the Year.
Samhain (Nov.1)Samhain is the time when the veil between the worlds is at its thinnest. Now is a good time for divination and scrying. Samhain is a time to reflect upon those in our life who have passed away. This is the time of year when we head into darkness, but the darkness won't last forever. Samhain is when the Horned One dies.
Yule (Dec. 20-23)Now we are in the midst of the darkness, the longest night of the year. Yet we are celebrating the return of the light, because now the night can only get shorter. Yule is when the God is reborn of the Goddess. This is the return of the Sun God.
Imbolc (Feb. 1 or 2)In all the snow and ice, Imbolc, or Candlemas, celebrates the earliest whisperings of spring. This is when the Goddess is caring for her young child. It also celebrates the three aspects of the Goddess; the Maiden, the Mother, and the Crone.
Spring Equinox (March 21)Spring Equinox, or Ostara, is the first day of spring. It is when the day equals the night. The God is growing stronger. Energy is rising as the days grow longer and warmer and we see new growth on the earth.
Beltane (April 30 or May 1)The earth is now fertile and the God is fully grown. Now his role is the Goddess's lover. This is not incest, the God is no longer the child of the Goddess. This is a joyous time to gather the first flower of summer is Their honor.
Summer Solstice (June 21)Summer Solstice, or Midsummer, is celebrated as a fire festival. This is the longest day of the year. It is a time to rejoice in the Goddess's bounty to us, the full flood of the years bounty.
Lammas (Aug.1)This holiday is also called Lughnasadh, and it is when the God is slowly weakening. This is the time for the first harvest of wheat and corn.
Mabon (Sept. 21 or 22)Mabon, or the Autumn Equinox, is the time for the second harvesting. The God is still weakening. This is another day with equal times of darkness of light, only this time the darkness is getting longer. This is the last holiday of the year, with Samhain starting it all again soon.
