Men's Wheelchair Basketball 2000

Since 1976, wheelchair basketball has been one of the pioneering adaptive sports in the Hampton Roads area.  Like many of our sports, It began as a program that was fully funded by the City of Virginia Beach's Therapeutic Unit (TR) within the Department of Recreation.  Today, it is the sole remaining adaptive sport that the TR Unit supports.  The City's TR Unit  provides practice facilities, transportation to conference games, the Mayor's Invitational Tourney, and administrative support necessary for our participation within the Capital Conference and the National Wheelchair Basketball Association.  To participate on the team and practices, the City requires all players to possess a valid recreational facility use card/daily pass ($35-$125 annually), to register for the Wheelchair Basketball course within the Course Catalog ($50 annually), and obtain release from a physician for participation.  Anyone interested in trying out sport should contact Kathy Williams or Janet Collins at (757)471-5884 for details.  This is a Co-ed team and practices are generally held on  Mondays (Bow Creek Rec Ctr) and Wednesdays (Bayside Rec Ctr) from 6 to 8 pm.  The first visit to practice is at no cost to you so that you may get the required forms and see if you like the sport.  If you need a wheelchair to participate, let the TR Unit know.  They have a limited number of extra wheelchairs available for use within the facility.  You do not have to be a rostered player on the team to participate in practices. Recreational players are also welcomed.  The team would like to acknowledge the continued, annual sponsorship of the Mid-Atlantic Chapter PVA, who's banner ad is posted below.
