(Actually we are just anxiously looking forward to some cooler weather. Although I saw on the Weather Channel some temperatures that showed sections of Utah, Idaho and other parts of the West, were over 100 degrees for many days, Whew!)
We are busy getting our calendar schedule lined up with Workshops, Demonstrations, Cook Offs and DOGs.
Our “Back-To-Cool” DOG takes place on Saturday, September 3rd, in Clearwater, Florida. Contact us if you’re going to be in the area and would like to attend. Beginners and new faces are always welcome!
Note: I was going to try and add more recipes to the site this summer, but unfortunately work got in the way. By the way, “Work” is a four-letter word.
Here in Florida many of us do something that may seem a bit unusual to the majority of you: we back off a tad from cooking outside during our hottest months, July and August, kind of like those of you who take a break during the snows of January and February. Oh, I know there are a number of you hard-core types that say, “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays true Dutch oven cooks from the swift completion of their appointed recipes,” (that sounds vaguely familiar) but with folks taking vacations or going camping the number of our members can run a little thin. We generally lighten up for these months and target getting back together in September for our end of Summer DOG.
Of course loads of us still cook all summer long on backyard patios, at picnics, while camping, and mostly just with families and friends. It’s a great time for trying out recipes and maybe adding a new piece of cast iron or a cookbook to our collections.
Our chapter calendar doesn’t have anything scheduled until September but we’ll be cooking and adding new recipes to the site over the next few months. Here’s hoping all of you have a safe and happy summer.
As Jacques Pepin would say… “Happy Cooking!” (of course he says it with a French accent)
I hope all of you enjoyed it as much as we did and we hope to see you all soon at our next outing.
The array of Dutch oven dishes prepared was quite varied and included beef stews, chili, Mexican lasagna, sage meatballs with potatoes, jambalaya, chicken cordon blue, plus many desserts to tempt your sweet tooth. Check out the pictures in the photo section and look for some of these great recipes in future web site updates.
