DEATH TO POP is a project of the Kamia Residence Hall, held annually during the dormitory's open house every February. It is a battle of the bands concert aiming to give exposure to amateur rock bands. (Please read related articles: "Death to Pop2 Sidebar," and "How to Organize Concerts" for more information.)
As the name suggests DEATH TO POP features only rock, heavy metal, alternative, trip hop, hip-hop, rap, rap metal, hard rock, ska, reggae--in other words, anything but pop. The contestants go through an audition first before being selected as finalists.
Since DEATH TO POP's beginning in February 2000--bands like Cheese, Chicosci, Greyhoundz, Twisted Halo, Seven Foot Jr., Kamikazee, Kiko Machine and Matilda have joined the noisebleeding in support of amateur bands. Judges who are celebs in the local music scene are also invited--such as Joey Dizon of PULP Magazine, Leo Amisoso of Seven Foot Jr., Rastem Eugenio of Radioactive Sago Project, and Lee Nadela of Slapshock among others.
If you have a band, or are in the process of forming one, and if you hate pop--we are inviting you to join DEATH TO POP 3. Have a chance to be discovered, rub elbows with rock stars or simply--party!
You may download the registration form by clicking on the Death to Pop logo below, or you may get registration forms at the Kamia Residence Hall lobby. The dorm is located behind AS, or Palma Hall, in front of PAV 4-Biology.
