Perspectives of people with disabilities

Men are created equally.  We, as humans, are same in the dignity of man.  However, we are totally different from anyone else in physical appearances, characters, the way we speak, and etc.  We all acknowledge that we are different from anyone else in that ways, but sometimes we don¡¯t feel it as the same way we think, that is, in case of looking at people with disabilities.  At times, it is a big advantage to have an attractive appearance in our society, even though we don¡¯t want to acknowledge it.  In case of seeing someone who looks different such as ugly or beautiful, we used to look at them.  However, if someone is beautiful, we would have prejudice that she/he were doing great on a certain kind of task.  If someone is not beautiful, we would have prejudice that she/he were not doing great on that.  We are born with different physical appearances, and it is beyond our reach so we can not control our faces, intelligence and etc.  I think having a disabilities is considered as those things, that is, it is one of our difference from anyone else, but it is not a thing to be ashamed of.  Born with disabilities is not our fault, and it is not anyone¡¯s fault. We all are having a possibility to be disabled someday, and in some ways, it is one of our nature.

From the second topic for portfolio, I looked up the sites in Internet.  Internet has made a difference in so many ways, and in case of people with disabilities, it make it possible to share good information by sitting on the chair. I think it is the most remarkable thing for technology to do to people with disabilities.  People with disabilities are not alone by using Internet any more.

These are common perspectives from people with disabilities.

  1. They are same people like us.
  2. They do not want us to have pity or similar emotion.
  3. Disabilities are not things to be ashamed of.
  4. It is sometimes hard to communicate with between school systems and parents.
  5. People expect people with disabilities to be successful like Steven Hawking.
  6. Sometimes disabilities are not identified properly, and it is hard to get proper help.  It can make people with disabilities to have a hard time in figuring out what is wrong with them.
  7. A lot of people have a prejudice or wrong information about disabilities.
  8. Regular classroom teachers are not ready for inclusion of people with disabilities.
  9. It is hard for people with disabilities to get a job, after graduation.
  10. It is hard to identify disabilities.
  11. Finding out problems can be the beginning of recovery, but sometimes it takes long time.  That can be frustrated to those who need help.
  12. School systems are not informed of many disabilities.
  13. It takes long time for family to accept their children or brother/sister with disabilities.

These are from specific disabilities.

  1.  It is hard to identify disabilities such as learning disabilities or ADHD.

  2.  Money matters, such as medical supplies, are significant in case of multiple  disabilities .

  3.  In diagnosing of mental problem, it is possible for doctors to misdiagnose symptoms, and it may cause to change people's life.

  4. In the work environment, many autistic adults can be reliable and conscientious workers. Unfortunately, these individuals may have difficulty getting a job. Since many of them are socially awkward and may appear to be 'eccentric' or 'different,' they often have difficulty with the job interview.

  5.  Yet most of the public, including many professionals in the medical, educational, and vocational fields, are still unaware of how autism affects people and how they can effectively work with individuals with autism.

  6. Teachers in public schools does not know about learning disabilities.
