Born
and raised in Castleknock in the Republic of Ireland, COLIN FARRELL is the son
of former football player, Eammonn Farrell and nephew of Tommy Farrell. Both Tommy and Eammon Farrell played for the
Irish Football Club, Shamrock Rovers in the 1960’s.
(But enough about them; back to Colin again J)…
It was
Colin’s early teenage ambition to follow in his father and uncle’s footsteps,
however his interest soon turned towards acting and he joined the Gaiety School
of Drama in Dublin. Before completing
his course, Colin landed a starring role in Dierdre Purcell’s miniseries
“Falling for a Dancer.” A starring role
in the BBC series “Ballykissangel,” in addition to a featured role in Tim
Roth’s directorial debut “The War Zone,” soon followed after.
Colin also co-starred with Academy Award
winner Kevin Spacey in the Dublin gangster movie, “Ordinary Decent
Criminal.” In the film, he plays the
youngest member of Spacey’s gang of hoodlums.
It was Spacey who suggested Colin for the part after catching his
performance in “In a Little World of Our Own” at the Donmar Warehouse in
London.
Colin will next be seen starring in New
Regency’s “Tigerland” which follows American soldiers who are taken to the
backwoods of Louisiana in 1971 to play war games in preparation for their first
tour of duty in Vietnam. He portrays a
roughneck Texan who strikes up an unlikely friendship with a clean-cut,
well-bred idealist whose dream is to become a writer. The film was shot entirely on location on a shuttered army base
in Florida and was directed by Joel Schumacher.
Currently, Colin has been in Austin, Texas
shooting Morgan Creek Production’s upcoming western/comedy “American Outlaws.” He plays the main character and co-stars
with Scott Caan, Ali Larter, Timothy Dalton and Kathy Bates. The film is scheduled to be released
sometime in Summer of 2001.
With all his credits piling up, it appears
that Colin is destined to become one of Hollywood’s most talented, charming and
sexiest young stars.
