Since
1986 Andi McGarry has been involved in 18 boat-making projects. Each
project has centered around the construction, testing, adventuring and
documenting of a series of handmade boats.
These
boats are made as a collaborative process involving all kinds of groups
and individuals. The boats are made from scratch, very quickly, using
simple materials. The entire process is well documented via photographs,
log books and note books, and video, with the participants actively
involved in recording and collating information. All projects are subject to very
strict safety criteria and risk-assessed.
It has
to be imagined what it feels like to journey in a boat of your own making.
Plans are afoot
for more boatmakery in 2004.
