Sunny Memories August 9, 2008

Lincoln State Park, Dale, Indiana

Nine member units were present for out August Campout.  Those present were Brooks, Bump, Colbert, Coleman, Hess, Hurst, McNulty, Nelson, and Pack.  Gerald and Sue Smith visited on Saturday and had dinner with us.

President Tom McNulty called the August 9 meeting to order and led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Secretary read the minutes of the July meeting.  A correction was offered concerning the Brooks’ daughter health problem.  The section should read a nerve stimulator implant.  The minutes were approved as corrected.  The Treasurers report was read and approved.  It was reported that the club collected $700 for Russell and Mary Brown to help with their flood damage.

Betty and Hayward Pack with the help or Bob and Rita Hess did a great job with the Hospitality.  Thank you to all.

Recognition of birthdays for August includes Frank McPherson, Becky Colbert and Charlotte Coleman.

Recognition of anniversaries for August includes Bob and Rita Hess # 58 and Gerald and Sue Smith # 34.

Continuing prayers were asked for the Nelson’s grandson, Brook’s daughter, Donna Hobbs mother, Vickie Hurst’s parents and Dexter Coleman.

Old Business

There was no old business.

New Business

Each unit was given a copy of the new policies and procedures.

Charlie Nelson gave a brief report on the rally.  The attendance was down with only 130 units present.  Also, there were only a few vendors offering goods for sale.  Sunny Travelers are hoping to have more regional rallies, since the price of fuel kept many from driving across the country.  The rally next year will be held in Hamburg, NY, which is located southwest of Buffalo, NY.

Our President asked for volunteers to be on the Nominating Committee.  Since there were no volunteers, he asked Hayward Pack to be Head of the committee and Vickie Hurst and Dexter Coleman to complete the committee.

The Executive Committee, which is comprised of the current officers and past presidents, will have a meeting at the September campout.  Members were asked to contact any of these persons with any suggestions for future campouts.  Dave Bump mentioned that we need to get back to playing games, doing group activities and craft projects.

Our next campout is September 12-14 and our hosts will be Bob and Jean Rutter.  Our President asked that we be thinking about camp sites for next year, while considering the mileage, the November campout, and the Christmas party.

Becky Colbert made a motion that we eat out next month and Tom McNulty seconded it.  The motion passed unanimously.

Dave Bump made the motion that we adjourn the meeting and Judy McNulty seconded it.  The motion passed unanimously.  Keith Colbert led us in a closing prayer.

Door prizes were won by the Nelsons, Bumps and Brooks.

Joy’s Notes

Usually our August campouts are so hot and humid that we plan on sitting around with fans, and no need for a campfire.  We were pleasantly surprised that the weather was delightful and the evenings were cool enough for a fire.  In anticipation of a hot afternoon, the business meeting was scheduled for Saturday morning.  It would not have been necessary as the day was cool.

Since Lincoln State Park is located across the road from the US Lincoln Boyhood Memorial, many of us made a trek to visit the park.  Gene Brooks and Jerry Judd hiked from the campground to the Memorial.  They came back ready to sit for a while.  Others of us were satisfied just hiking trails on the property.

We had a great visit with Gerald and Sue Smith on Saturday.  Many of us had not seen them for a long time and were surprised to see how slim Sue has become and that Gerald has given up smoking.  Congratulations to both of you.

We all enjoyed our meals at The Chateau Restaurant in Mariah Hill, IN.

Our group enjoyed a competitive game of beanbag toss on Saturday afternoon.

Here is security warning to all.  Be sure to lock your campers at night.  Around midnight on Saturday night, the Nelsons thought that someone was in their camper.  Charlie went out to the living area and found a very inebriated visitor sitting on their sofa.  After several attempts, he finally got the man to leave.  Thank goodness all ended well.
