Sunny Memories August 15, 2009
Brown County State Park, Nashville, Indiana
Eight Member units camped this weekend: Brown, Brooks, Bump, Colbert, Hess, McNulty, Rutter and Young.
President Dave Bump called the meeting to order and led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance.
The minutes were read by the Secretary and they were approved as read. The Treasurer’s report was given and it was approved as read.
Dave thanked Becky and Keith Colbert and their assistants, Judy McNulty and Pat Judd for the super job with the Hospitality. He also thanked Joy Bump for leading the crafts.
Birthdays recognized for July were Charlie Hurst, Joy Bump, Linda Young, Hayward Pack, Dan Adams and Patty Johnson. August birthdays included Frank McPherson, Charlotte Coleman and Becky Colbert. July anniversary was Tom and Judy McNulty and the August anniversary was Bob and Rita Hess.
Prayers and concerns are needed for Vickie Hurst’s parents, Rita Hess for quick recovery for her fall and Mary Brown for recovery of illness.
Old Business
Keith Colbert reported that 10 couples have responded that they will be attending the 10th Anniversary celebration in September. Since a number of persons have not responded, Judy McNulty and Jean Rutter will contact them by phone or email.
Dave Bump announced that Yahoo had contacted him and that Geo Cities will not be available as of October which will shut down the Sunny Memories Web Site. We have some options: Yahoo will continue our website for an extra $5 a month, we could piggyback on a church website, we could go through a site similar to Face Book, or we can drop the website. There followed a discussion of the options. We decided we did not want to drop it, but were not sure about which option to take. Keith Colbert will talk with Customers First about their paying the extra fee.
Dan and Patty Johnson have a conflict with hosting the October campout and have exchanged with Hayward and Betty Pack who were scheduled for the September campout.
New Business
Our President announced that there will be a club Executive Committee Meeting in September. Members are requested to contact any officer with concerns or business that needs to be discussed.
Keith Colbert reported that Customers First donated 5 folding chairs for door prizes. There was discussion on how to distribute them. Judy McNulty made a motion that we wait until we receive the final number of attendees to the Anniversary Celebration. Jean Ann Brooks seconded the motion. The motion carried.
Dave Bump read Dan Johnson’s report of the International Rally President’s meeting. Copy attached.
A committee consisting of Keith Colbert and Tom McNulty will look into planning an extended week long camping trip for next year for our club.
Our President reminded us that election of officers will be in October. The Secretary and Treasurer positions need to be filled. Also, members were asked to be thinking about possible campout sites for next year.
There will be no crafts next month, since our Saturday will be a busy one.
Judy McNulty made a motion that we adjourn the meeting and Keith Colbert seconded the motion.
Keith led us in a closing prayer.
Bob and Rita Hess won the door prize.
Joy’s Notes
Upon arrival at the campground Dave and I realized that most of our group was already on site Wednesday. After getting our camper parked and all set it was time to greet everyone. We were told that Rita Hess had suffered a fall and injured her face on Tuesday, but she still wanted to camp. Thank goodness she broke no bones, but her face took the brunt of the fall.
Most of the group decided to visit Nashville during the afternoon. We visited the Bare Foot sock stores. The clerk asked if any of us would like to go to the factory on Friday. Nine of us decided that this would be a fun tour. After buying our socks, we all trekked to find the ice cream shop and indulge in some great treats.
We planned to have a wine and cheese tasting during Hospitality on Friday, but changed it to Thursday evening after dinner. There was good variety of wines to taste and some new brands.
Friday morning, three of our golfers played a round of golf. Becky Colbert traveled back to Scottsburg to watch to the filming of her son in laws movie. Mary and Russel Brown treated us to fresh donuts from their daughter’s shop located in Nashville. In the afternoon, those with tickets went to the sock factory located in Helmsburg. The tour was well presented and we all enjoyed ourselves. We had our Hospitality time and enjoyed some great food with our roasted hot dogs.
Saturday morning the ladies gathered to make plastic canvas bookmarks. Mary and Russel Brown spent Friday night at the emergency room in Columbus. Mary became quite ill during the night. They came back to the campground, but packed up and went on home. The weather was getting rather hot and humid, so no one had a lot of energy for games. Our meeting was scheduled for late afternoon followed by a pitch in supper. Although it was quite warm, we still had a campfire.
The weather was predicted to get really hot, so we all got up early Sunday morning to make our treks back home.
President’s Meeting 2009
Presidents,
Below is a summary of the items discussed at
the President’s meeting in
Thanks,
Patty & Dan Johnson
SunnyTimes will not be mailed due to the cost of printing and mailing. Printed
issues of SunnyTimes cost about $4,000.00 per issue.
Members who have not submitted their e-mail addresses to RCMI
need to send their e-mail address to RCMI at
membership@rcmi.com or to Dan & Patty Johnson at sunnytravelersrv@yahoo.com.
Next year’s International Rally will be in Ohio at the Fulton County Fairgrounds in the later part
of Sept. or first of Oct.. The fairgrounds are at exit 34 on I-80/I-90.
A member suggested holding the rally
in Goshen every year but others said they like to see different places. Larry
Branham said the rally may be in Berrien Springs, MI.
in 2011.
Patty & Dan suggested that each chapter
bring a gift basket for next year’s rally. The baskets would be used for 50/50
drawing prizes. The gift basket should be filled with products from the
chapter’s region. The value of the basket should be between $20-30.
Presidents were asked to e-mail their chapter
rosters to Dan & Patty at sunnytravelersrv@yahoo.com. RCMI’s
chapter rosters are out of date and updated rosters will assist us next year
when setting up committees for the International Rally.
For next year’s International Rally at the
Fulton County Fairgrounds, we will be asking chapters to chair and run a
committee. Chapter 1 has volunteered to cover a catered dinner and Chapter 43
has volunteered to do the photo contest again next year. If your chapter will
be attending next year’s international and you want to volunteer for a
committee, please let Patty & Dan know. Otherwise, we will be contacting
you.
Larry Branham updated the presidents on the
status of SunnyBrook. Currently SunnyBrook is not providing financial support
to SunnyTravelers. However, this should change as the
economy improves. Everyone was disappointed that Elvie
Frey, Susan Yoder, and the service technicians did not attend this year’s
international. Elvie is currently working on final
approval for a FEMA contract. If/when he clears all the governmental hurdles,
SunnyBrook will be awarded a contract to build 125 FEMA trailers a week for 18
months. This contract will permit SunnyBrook to bring back all their laid off
workers plus hire additional workers. SunnyBrook will be running one line of
SunnyBrook products and one line of FEMA units.
Elvie stated that he will attend next year’s International Rally
One item discussed at the “You Want to go Where?” seminar is the idea of SunnyTravelers offering a major trip every two years. The
trip would be announced two years ahead to give SunnyTravelers
time to plan & budget for the trip. Please discuss this idea with your
membership. Locations mentioned for a 2011 trip include:
