Sunny Memories – June, 2008

Holt’s Campground, Bardstown, KY

6 member units were present:

Brooks, Colbert, McNulty, McPherson, Rutter and Urbahns

On Saturday, June 14th, Pres. Tom McNulty called the meeting to order and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

The minutes for the May meeting were read and approved.

The treasurer’s report was presented and approved: With the addition of Mel Sodergren’s dues the current totals are: General Fund, $151.38; Bereavement Fund $21.00 for a total of $172.38.

General Club News:

Tom thanked Keith & Becky Colbert for a fabulous hospitality last evening (especially the cranberry/oatmeal cookies).

Birthdays for June are: Betty Pack & Paul Urbahns. Anniversary is Dave & Donna Hobbs, #45!!!

(Thanks to Paul’s birthday yesterday, we enjoyed a DQ cake last evening!)

Prayers are requested for Russel & Mary Brown, Dave & Joy Bump and all who are recovering from flood damage – also for Donna Adams’ father, Donna Hobbs’ mother and Vickie Hurst’s parents.

We welcomed Paul & Dawn Urbahns back.

Old Business:

·   Executive Committee Meeting: Tom had intended to have the mandatory annual Executive Committee Meeting at this campout but decided to postpone it.

He has not received many responses from the membership as to what concerns/suggestions they would like to have addressed by the Executive Committee. Those he has heard from (6 out of 18) all seemed to address the discussion at last month’s general meeting which dealt with membership in the Sunny Travelers organization and how other clubs are handling “some-other-brand” guests at their functions.

Tom has asked Charlie Nelson to head a Committee of our members to go over the comments made and come up with a proposal to present to our membership. He asked for volunteers to assist Charlie; Jean Ann Brooks and Jean Rutter graciously offered to lend a hand.

Tom will contact Charlie and have him set a date and location for this group meeting.

·   Renfro Valley discussion: The gas prices have caused the list of attendees at the Renfro Valley campout (Oct. 10-12) to dwindle to the point that those going to Renfro Valley will not be eligible for the group discount -- and we cannot count it as an official meeting since there will not be 5 units present.

In the discussion today, we realized that it was probably not a good idea to have made those plans for Renfro Valley since the October meeting is our busy business meeting of the year with election of officers and planning the schedule for next year.

New Business:

·   We discussed a little about Dave Bump’s e-mail on maintaining the chapter website. Several of us had some questions and, since Dave & Joy were not at this gathering, we tabled discussion until they are with us.

·   We did receive some door prizes from Customers First this week. Among them is a lounge chair donated by Coast distributors. Since it is such a big gift, we decided to raffle it for the rest of the summer. Becky made a motion to use the money for our Bereavement Fund, seconded by Judy. Tickets will be $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. You can buy as many as you like as often as you like!!!

·   Jean Ann made a motion to ask everyone to reply when they receive the minutes so we know who is getting them. Frank seconded. Motion approved.

A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Judy McNulty, seconded by Gene Brooks and approved by all.

Keith Colbert led us in a closing prayer.

Door prizes were won by Brooks and McNulty.

Submitted by Judy McNulty in the absence of Joy Bump

Judy’s Jottings:

Holt’s Campground was very simple and comfy. Mr. Holt had us all in the back row overlooking the fishing pond and the sunsets. We had lots of trees to sit under for our conversations as well as free access to the pavilion for our meeting and rainy times. (Yes, we had a few drops of rain.) He seemed glad to have us all there and joined us often on his golf cart.

Bardstown is rich in historical niceties. We spent many days there during our 17 years in and out of Fort Knox but it is still as beautiful as ever.  Lo and behold, don’t you know we found a buffet with country ham and ice cream – we ate there three times!! Gene was a happy man!!

It was so good to have Paul & Dawn Urbahns join us again. They plan to be with us another time or two this year. Paul’s schedule doesn’t allow much free time and with the grandbabies being out west, they go there whenever possible.

Keith and Becky’s friend & former pastor now presides at the little church across the road from the campground. So they got to visit with them -- and several went to church services there Sunday morning.

We received an e-mail today from Dan & Patty Johnson, the couple who will be taking over as wagon masters for SunnyTravelers next season. They live in McCordsville, IN, and hope to join us for one of our campouts this summer.

The following is the latest from Mary Brown:

Hey...

I'm glad your weekend was nice. We took Sunday morn off, went to Cracker Barrel for breakfast and then to church... We got to the house around 12:30 and daughter Terra and her husband were there already working.. They have been such help.. Church of Latter Day came over to help with stuff for couple hours.. which every hand no matter how long helps.. I’m so over all of it and the smell is so sour.. I keep thinking I will wake up from the dream..

Our luck is still going south.. The aunt’s house didn't work out .. they decided it would only be available 2 weeks at most.. and the camper deal at Ceraland didn't work either.. So, we are still looking.. My niece has no problem with us being here, however I don't want to put her out for months.. We can always go to Nashville IN and stay with Terra but we were hoping to be closer to home.. Some people are already rebuilding, but they are telling us we are at least 3 weeks from even thinking about anything because of how much damage we got.. Russel told someone he was not thinking of buying another camping unit.. I'm not sure if that’s just the situation talking or if he will still be saying that in a few months.. I did mention yesterday that I thought we were going to have to shop for a camper to live in but I didn't want to just buy someone else's problems.. he commented that would probably be what I have to do.. So we will see.. There have already been travel trailers moving into the neighborhood..

Take care.. Mary

I will send everyone a new roster.
