Sunny Memories June 12, 2009
Starve Hollow State Recreation Area, Brownstown, Indiana
Seven member units were camping with us: Brown, Bump, Colbert, McNulty, Pack, Rutter and Young.
President Dave Bump called the meeting to order and led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. The Secretary read the minutes and there was a correction by Tom McNulty that last month Judy reported that she had put together an invitation and list of former members for the Anniversary celebration. This was noted and the minutes were approved. The Treasurer reported that she had purchased envelopes and stamps for the Anniversary mailing, but there were no other changes at this time.
Birthdays recognized for the month of June were Betty Pack and Paul Urbahn. There were no anniversaries for the month.
Bob and Jean Rutter were thanked for the great food served for Hospitality.
Old Business
Tom McNulty reported that Becky Colbert will be mailing the invitations for the Anniversary celebration during the month of June. After some discussion, it was decided to include an insert with the directions to Wooded Glen.
Tom McNulty distributed maps to all those attending the International Rally in Hamburg, NY. He has made arrangements to meet in the parking lot of the Erie County Casino. Tom needs to know when each attendee will be arriving at the rendezvous point.
Becky Colbert took volunteer assignments of the games to be played at the Rally from 2:30-4:30 pm on Thursday, July 2.
Dave Bump reported that Charlie Hurst had called him in regard to the October campout at Patoka Lake. One person would need to make the reservations for the whole group. After discussing this issue, Russel Brown made the motion that we change the location of our October campout. Becky Colbert seconded the motion and the motion carried. Several locations were mentioned, but the final decision was tabled. At a latter follow up, it was decided to camp at Charlestown State Park in October. The recommended sites at Charlestown are 155 – 159 and 190 – 194.
New Business
Many of our members are attending the International Rally and our President asked if we should still plan to have a July campout. Several persons present indicated that they would not be able to attend a July campout. Dave Bump will send an e-mail to all members and determine from the response if there are enough interested members. He will let everyone know as soon as possible.
Becky Colbert made a motion that the Hospitality for August be a Wine and Cheese tasting. Bob Hess seconded the motion and the motion was carried. The Colbert’s will supply the cheese and crackers and each couple will be bringing a bottle or bottles of their favorite wine.
Our campout in August will be at Brown County State Park. Tom McNulty made a motion that we have a pitch-in for our Saturday evening meal. Rita Hess seconded the motion and the motion carried.
President Dave Bump adjourned the meeting. Keith and Becky Colbert won the door prize. Keith Colbert dismissed us with a closing prayer.
Joy’s Notes
Upon arrival at the campground on Wednesday, we realized that the Colbert and Rutter were already at their sites. In between rain showers we were able to set up and finally catch up with them for some conversation.
Thursday arrived with plenty of sun and the arrival of more of campers. The trails in the park were real muddy, but we were able to walk through the primitive and electric only camping area. It was great to see the lake filled again. During our fall campout at this park the lake was being drained and it was to be cleaned. Gene and Jean Ann Brooks called and let us know they would be unable to camp with us.
Friday morning two golfers went out to enjoy a round of golf. During the afternoon, we had a nice surprise. Rich and Linda Young arrived to camp with us for 2 nights. We had some catching up with all of the news from them. Betty and Hayward Pack called to tell us they would not arrive until Saturday.
Saturday morning the golfers played another round of golf. Judy McNulty instructed the ladies on constructing small gift boxes. After we finished the boxes, several of the ladies attended a quilt show in Salem, IN. Mary Brown won a door prize at the show, which reminded us that she won a prize last month at another quilt show. A few of us played Ladder Jacks Saturday afternoon. Saturday evening we all enjoyed a many delicious dishes at our pitch-in. We have many great cooks.
We all woke up to an early morning rain shower on Sunday. The rain stopped in time for several couples to attend the church service at the park. After a great weekend, it was time to pack up and go home.
