The Sidekicks
You know them
as Kaleidoscope. But they were also Fairfield Parlour and I Luv
Wight.
Long before that they were The Key -- and before that they were
The Sidekicks.
When Kaleidoscope first came together as a band in 1964 they
called themselves The Sidekicks. Kicking out their own home-grown
brand of British R&B they gigged in youth clubs and cinemas
and pubs throughout London.
Soon deciding they wanted a recording contract they needed demos
to impress those hard-hearted A&R men. Over the next three
years they recorded the songs they were playing on stage at tiny
studios like Central Sound in London`s Tin Pan Alley. These
sessions included `Holiday Maker` which, once their recording
contract with Fontana was signed, they would re-record a few
months later as Kaleidoscope.
Those demos have now been rescued and digitally remastered and
are now available on CD:
Kaleidoscope - The Sidekicks Sessions.
