Tharur swaroopam: During the beginning of the second Chera dynasty the rulers of the Nedumpurayur got divided into several small countries and the name of each countries came to be called 'idam' and the men folks were called 'achan' and the ladies were called 'nethyaramma'. The eldest member of all the idams became the king of Palakkad. This kingdom came to be called the Tharur swaroopam. There were five 'kooru vazhchakal' in this kingdom. The king was the supreme authority and below him up to fifth koor there were ilaya rajavu, kavassery rajavu, thalan thampuran rajavu, thariputhamurathampuran rajavu. The main branches were Puzhukkilidam, Thazhathe melidam, Cherukotharidam, Nellikkalidam, Kizhakke Melidam, Paruvaikkalidam. |

The attack of the Kongans: When the Chittur area of the Palakkad kingdom was attacked by the invaders from the Konganad with the help of the Godavarma raja of the Kochi dynasty the Palakkad king defeated the invaders and as a token of gratitude the areas Nenmara, Chittur, Pattanchery, Thathamangalam, Nalleppully were gifted to the Kochi king. Venganad swaroopam which ruled from Kollenkode and Valluvanadu ruled by the Valluvakkonathiri of Angadippuram were part of the Palakkad. |

The invasion of Tippu sultan: When in 1757 the Calicut king Zamorin or samoothiri attacked Palakkad the Palakkad king asked for the help of the Hyderali of Mysore and thus Palakkad came under Hyderali's rule and after his demise Tippu sultan the next king too controlled Palakkad. But in 1792 Palakkad came under the British rule after Tippu sultan got defeated in war with the British east india company. |
