Markus Imhoof the world famous film director writes: What a nice surprise! The church in Mepparamba was planned by my Grand father Gustav Peter, I remember there is a photo in your church, showing him (with a small white beard) and two little girls, one of them, the one with blue eyes, is my mother. I came in 1986 first time to India, It was Christmas time in Palghat and I was invited to speak in Church. When I see the conflicts in the world, now the danger of war between India and Pakistan, I am sure my Grand father would have prayed for tolerance, We all speak different languages, but it means the same thing if we say "love" or "liebe" in German or " amour" in French, I don't know the Malaialam. I am convinced, there is only one God, but may be only his name is different in different languages. I wish you all the best for the New Year. Markus Imhoof |

German Architecture in the Church The architectural marvel of the arches in this Church are amazing.. It is being told from the older generations that the arches of this Church when first constructed fall down completely and when all other attempts made to reinstate it failed, the all who were in that place joined together in prayer and the arch in place now is the result of that prayer and has stood till this date, as you know the church was constructed in 1910. |
Tipu sultan and the Church The place where the Church is now located is situated near the place where the erstwhile Mysore king Tippu sultan used to keep his horses ready for the battle and near it is a rock where it is being told that he used to hang those who are enemical to him. This pace was once ruled by the kings of Palakkad until Hyderali and Tippu sultan conquered it. It was reclaimed by the British and joined to the Malabar province of the Madras. Until the independence of India it was under that rule. After independence the Malayalam speaking provinces were joined together to form the now Kerala state of India. |
