Palakkad:
Palakkad district is situated in the eastern border of Central Kerala. On the north and north western border Malappuram district and on the south and south western side Thrissur district and on the east Coimbatore district of the Tamilnadu state are situated.  In the ancient times this area was known as 'Porenadu' and in an intermediary period it was called as 'Tarur swaroopam' which later became Palakkatssery and Palakkad.  The kings of Palakkad ruled this place.  The main charesteristic of this area is the Palakkad pass, which is a 40 kms divide between western ghats.  It is through this pass the north eastern rain comes to Kerala.  Palakkad is also known as the granary of Kerala.

Malampuzha dam:  The dam which made Palakkad the granary of the Kerala state.  The dam was built on the Bharathapuzha.  Here there is a beautiful garden, aquarium, snake park, fantacy park, roapway and thread garden.
Palakkad fort:  This ancient fort is situated in the Palakkad town.  Hyderali built it in 1776 and was used as a militaru station for Hyderali's and Tippu's armies.  British snatched it in 1790 and was used as a defensive centre against Tippu.  Near to the fort is Vatika na modern garden built by the Palakkad district tourism promotion council, Rappadi an open air auditorium and Traffic park run by Health organization of Palakkad.
Nelliyampathy:  Nelliyampathy is situated in the western ghat region and is famous for its scenery, trekking and estates where tea, coffee, orange etc. grow.  It is situated at about 52 kms from Palakkad town.
Parambikulam:  Wild life sanctuary.  It is 110 kms away from Palakkad town and covers an area of about 285 sq.kms.  Parambikulam dam too is situated here.  This is one of the best wild life sanctuaries in Kerala.  The main wild life sightings in the sanctuary are elephant, bison, sambar deer, spotted deer, jungle cat, lion tailed macauque, tiger, panther, bear and lots of other winged animals.
Silent valley national park:  This is one of the greatest treasures of bio diversity and gene bank.  every other plants and animals can be found here, there are more than 1000 varieties of trees, 966 flowering planks and every kind of animals.  This forest is the gift of the nature to the mankind.
J.P Deer park:  Situated at Walayar, 22 kms from Palakkad on the Kerala-Tamilnadu border, this park offers close encounter with deer.
Choolannur peacock sanctuary:  This sanctuary is situated at 30 kms from Palakkad at Mayiladumpara and is one of the best places to watch peacocks.
Siruvani dam:  This area has one of the largest herds of wild elephants.  It is 80 kms away from Palakkad and is built at the Siruvani river, a tributory of Bhavani river.
Kanjirapuzha dam:  This dam is situated 24 kms away from Palakkad.  The ever green forest "vettila chola" is situated on the other side of the dam.  There is a beautiful garden built recently to cater to the tourists.
Dhoni waterfalls:  It is about 15 kms away from Palakkad. Has to trek through reserve forests for about 5 kms to reach it from the base of the Dhoni hills.
Meenvallam waterfalls:  It is 8 kms away from Thuppanad on the Mannarkkad-Palakkad route  and is a combination of enchanting beauty and scenic splendour.  There are nearly 10 steps of water falls of which eight are located in the upperhills inside the thick forest.
