The Show
Set just before the American Civil War, this series presented a highly fictionalized account of the heyday of the Pony Express. Its focus was a group of young Express riders. Running the station was ex-Texas Ranger and all-around eccentric Teaspoon Hunter. The role of cook, housekeeper and mother hen was filled first by Emma and later by Rachel. The riders included the future "Buffalo Bill" Cody and James Butler ("Wild Bill") Hickok, as well as Ike, a mute, Buck, a half-White/half-Kiowa scout and the Kid, a quiet Southerner. Their final member was Lou, a young woman who lived and worked with the riders disguised as a boy. In the second season, their group was joined by Noah Dixon. The show ran for 3 seasons, from 1989 to 1992. Re-runs are currently being shown on The Hallmark Channel
I have been a huge fan ever since I saw the first episode when it was shown here in Singapore (I think it was in 1990). It may have taken a while, but the Pony Express finally reached Asia! Unfortunately, only the first season was shown here. Since then, I have been amazed to discover the TYR world that exists online...it's great to meet people who are as crazy about the show as I am. Also, I have finally been able to see the entire series on video (big thank-you to Janet!).

The Pony Express
Although the general storyline of the show is fictitious, it does have its roots in history.
The Pony Express was a mail service that operated in the US for about 18 months, between 1860 and 1861.
The Pony Express mail service was established by the freight firm, Russel, Majors and Waddell.
Riders carried mail between St Joseph, Missouri and Sacramento, California.
The use of the Pony Express came to an end with the completion of the transcontinental telegraph line in October 1861.
