Episode #11
You Can't Take it With You
Gregory has a bigger part in it. So does Miss Priss, excuse me, I mean Caitlin.
Gregory is sitting on the edge of his bed in his cell. Caitlin walks in.
CAITLIN: Hi, daddy.
GREGORY: What are you doing here?
CAITLIN: Jude came over this morning and said they might be releasing you in two weeks.
GREGORY: Where are you living now?
CAITLIN: In the house. Annie gave it to mom. We aren't sure why yet though.
GREGORY: I wonder what my ex-wife is up to now.
CAITLIN: I don't know. But she might be taking a little down time.
GREGORY: What makes you think that?
CAITLIN: She's married and pregnant.
GREGORY: Married and pregnant?
CAITLIN: She and Jude got married on Valentine's Day and are going to have twins in July I think. I'm not really sure.
GREGORY: Interesting turn of events. And now she has my entire fortune.
CAITLIN: You can't take it with you, Daddy. You don't need it. Daddy?
GREGORY: Yes?
CAITLIN: Did you know that Annie was pregnant?
GREGORY: No, I didn't. I just wanted to see what they would do.
CAITLIN: We'll be waiting at home for you. I'm looking forward to having you back in my life.
GREGORY: What's wrong, Caitlin?
CAITLIN: Nothing.
GREGORY: I'm your father and I can tell when something is wrong.
CAITLIN: It's Cole. We had a really big fight and we haven't really spoken in about a month. Now, I don't want you to say anything, daddy. Because I know you and I know given the chance you'd say something about Cole. I still love him and I always will.
GREGORY: I won't say anything. I think I owe you that. You're the only one of my children that has any respect, any love for me.
CAITLIN: In their own ways Sean and David do love you, daddy.
GREGORY: They stopped that a long time ago. And it doesn't bother me.
CAITLIN: I think that it does. I have to go. I'll see you later. I love you.
GREGORY: I love you too. Caitlin, watch out, Francesca Vargas is still alive. I don't know how they did it, but she's alive.
CAITLIN: I will. Daddy, did you really blackmail me? Were you the blackmailer?
GREGORY: Of course not.
CAITLIN: I thought so.
She leaves the jail.
Annie and Jude are standing outside the conference room doors at the Liberty Corporation. He hugs her.
JUDE: You'll be okay, I'm going to protect you. He won't hurt you, or our children.
ANNIE: Okay. Let me get this over with. Then, can we go home?
JUDE: Yeah. I think I'll go talk to Bette.
ANNIE: Jude, Gregory might come after you too. You are the one who put him in prison.
JUDE: And I'm the one who's going to put him back there. I love you. Good luck on your first meeting.
ANNIE: Thanks. I love you too.
He kisses her, and gently places his hand over her stomach, then walks off smiling. She walks into the conference room.
ANNIE: Good afternoon, everyone. Not to make you think Old Annie is back, but let's get this over with. My back is killing me and well, you'd be in a bad mood if you just found out your ex-husband is getting out of jail too. There isn't much to cover. Ben, AJ, you've been doing well handling things and this company is doing better than when Gregory was here.
BEN: That's because of Jude. I didn't really do much in that time. I was in Seattle.
AJ: It's true. I was preoccupied with Bette and Olivia.
OLIVIA: You know exactly what I was doing, Annie.
ANNIE: Which I have apologized for, and meant. But this isn't about us. This is about the company.
BEN: Which is doing so well, because of your husband.
ANNIE: As proud as I am of his many talents do you think we can keep this on track?
AJ: Yes.
ANNIE: Good, I think that's it.
BEN: Actually, I have a few questions. One, actually.
ANNIE: What?
BEN: How did you get to be majority stock holder?
OLIVIA: By lying her way through the divorce.
ANNIE: I'll ignore that. When I divorced Gregory I was given everything of his. Including this position.
BEN: Congratulations to you, Annie. Six weeks of law school paid off.
ANNIE: They played dirty and the judge knew it. Had they did it honestly I probably wouldn't be here.
ALEX: But you are.
ANNIE: And I'm going to make the most of it. A couple of you may be skeptical as to whether or not I can handle this work, but I can do it. If there's nothing more...
BEN: I think that's it.
AJ: Yes. Welcome, Annie.
The meeting adjourns.
Jude is talking to Bette.
BETTE: So, they're letting Greggy-Poo out of the big house?
JUDE: In two weeks. I'm going to try and stop it, but if can't, I have protection for Annie. But don't tell her. I don't want her to know that I have people following her for her protection. It'll just scare her and she needs to live as normal a life as possible.
BETTE: Especially in her condition. Good luck, Handsome. Every pun intended, but you have taken a sad song and made it better for her. I have never seen her this happy before. And I've known her her entire life.
JUDE: All I want is to make her happy, Bette.
BETTE: That's what I want too.
Annie comes up.
ANNIE: The meeting is over.
JUDE: Good, let's go home.
BETTE: How was the first day?
ANNIE: Good, until I found out about Gregory.
BETTE: I'm so sorry, Poopsie.
ANNIE: I've dealt with worse. I'll see you later, Aunt Bette. I just want to go home and sleep.
BETTE: You should get lost of rest. You're starting to show.
JUDE: It's beautiful.
ANNIE: I have to go shopping. There is no way I'm fitting into my usual attire.
BETTE: Oh, I couldn't agree more. Bye, Poopsie, bye Handsome.
Jude and Annie leave. He carries her briefcase for her. As they disappear around the corner David and Evelyn walk in hand in hand.
EVELYN: Hi, Mom. What's up with Annie?
BETTE: Oh, David, your father is getting out.
DAVID: What? That can't happen. He's dangerous, Bette. He'll hurt someone. Or more than one person.
BETTE: Well, Jude is going to try and stop it.
EVELYN: Good luck to him then.
BETTE: Absolutely.
AJ joins them.
AJ: Well, Evelyn, this is a nice surprise.
EVELYN: I just had my first doctors appointment and I also went to a meeting.
BETTE: I'm proud of you, Pumpkin.
EVELYN: Thanks.
AJ: And, David, thank you so much for your support and friendship. You'll always be a friend to this family.
EVELYN: I couldn't have done this without him.
DAVID: Evelyn is my friend, and I also consider you two my friends, and I want to help if I can.
BETTE: We appreciate it.
EVELYN: We just wanted to stop by and say hi. We have somewhere to be.
DAVID: Yeah. Is my mom here?
AJ: Yes, she is.
DAVID: Will you tell her I'll be in late tonight?
EVELYN: Um, if it's all right I will be too. In David's protection though. There's a party at the Deep we wanted to go to.
BETTE: Go on, get out of here.
They leave.
AJ: Our daughter is going to be okay.
BETTE: Yeah, she is.
He notices Bette's sad look on her face.
AJ: I understand.
BETTE: I've been thinking about it a lot lately.
AJ: So have I. Ever since Evelyn came to town.
BETTE: Part of me would like to yell it out. Then the sensible part of me tells me that it's best to let sleeping dogs lay.
AJ: I do love you, Bette. Just remember that when you think of it, darling.
BETTE: I love you too.
Next scene Sara walks up to the lifeguard station where Casey's working away at the desk.
SARA: Hi.
CASEY: Sara.
SARA: Wasn't expecting me?
CASEY: No, but I'm glad you're here.
SARA: Yeah, um, I hope you don't mind, but your mom told me about your dream.
CASEY: Well, you look at me the way you're looking how can I?
SARA: Good point. We've never really spoken about your father before, but I did tell you that if you ever need someone to talk to about it that I am here. That's part of my job description as the woman who loves you.
CASEY: So, loving me is a job?
SARA: You know what I mean.
CASEY: I do.
SARA: You know, yesterday was Valentine's Day.
CASEY: And we didn't do anything.
SARA: Now, that isn't true. We got the church booked for the wedding.
CASEY: True. But you should know that I have kicked everyone out of the house tonight. Gabi and Nick are going to Ben and Meg's and my mom is going to Bette's. So, the house is ours tonight. Just don't come home until six.
SARA: Okay. I just wanted to stop by and see how you were before I went to the shop.
CASEY: Okay, have a good day.
SARA: I love you.
CASEY: I love you.
They kiss before she goes.
Nick is sitting at the Java Web and Francesca comes up to him.
FRANCESCA: Hello.
NICK: Hi. This is nice.
FRANCESCA: I saw you sitting there and, well, couldn't help myself. I was thinking about you last night.
NICK: I was thinking about you too. I actually have something to ask you.
FRANCESCA: Oh?
NICK: There is this charity ball thing coming up in I think a few days. Be my date?
FRANCESCA: I would love to.
NICK: Great. It's formal wear. I'll pick you up at the Sea Breeze at six thirty.
FRANCESCA: I'll be ready.
Eddie walks in and spots Francesca and smiles as she and Nick continue talking and laughing.
Maria sits at the kitchen table daydreaming about Ross.
MARIA: I have to go see Annie. She's the one I can talk to about this stuff.
She leaves the house.
Michael runs into Ricardo on the beach.
MICHAEL: Ricardo, how's it going?
RICARDO: It's okay.
MICHAEL: Are you going tomorrow night? To the party.
RICARDO: For that kid?
MICHAEL: Yeah.
RICARDO: Yeah, I've paid and everything. Took a bit to get the cash together, but every kid needs a break.
MICHAEL: Great. I haven't seen you black tie in a while.
RICARDO: Yeah, it'll be good.
MICHAEL: Anyway, I'm going to meet Vanessa at work. I'll see you later.
RICARDO: Bye, Michael.
Amy is stirring on her bed at Brad's house. Brad walks in.
BRAD: Amy?
AMY: What do you want, Brad?
BRAD: You have to move out. In two weeks. That's all the time I'm giving you. I think it's more than enough.
AMY: What? Why?
BRAD: Because I'm in love with Emily and if I want to at least be here friend, I can't be around you. I thought that you and me could be friends. But if you're going to devote your life to hurting Emily, I don't want anything to do with you. And I told Emily that you're out to get Sean.
AMY: What? Brad, you have ruined my life.
BRAD: You're doing it yourself, Amy. By keep running after someone who doesn't love you. You and me could have been good friends. But you can't give up this crush on Richards.
AMY: It's not a crush, Brad. I love him. No one has ever treated me with respect or as nice as he does.
BRAD: Did, Amy. Like he did treat you. You seem to be forgetting that ever since he found out you drugged him to sleep with you, he hates you and doesn't want anything to do with you.
AMY: Things change.
BRAD: Yeah, when I'm ice skating in hell, that's the day Sean Richards makes love to you without the influence of a potion.
AMY: Whatever, Brad. Leave me alone so I can work on finding a place to live. I can't believe you are doing this. I have no where to go. I have no money.
BRAD: You might have more money if you hadn't wasted it on some lust potion. And I know for a fact you've been saving and doing overtime at the Shock Wave. You can afford at least something.
AMY: Go away, Brad.
He leaves and shuts the door behind him.
As soon as Annie and Jude enter their house the door bell rings. Jude opens it to find Maria standing there.
JUDE: Maria, hi.
MARIA: Hi, Jude. Is Annie here, or is she at work?
ANNIE: Maria?
MARIA: Oh, good. Can we talk, alone? No offense, Jude. Girl talk.
JUDE: Don't mind me. Are you okay, Annie?
ANNIE: I'll be fine.
Jude walks upstairs.
MARIA: You're getting big.
ANNIE: Gee, thanks.
MARIA: It suits you. Pregnancy, that is. I never thought it would, but you look happy and it fits you.
ANNIE: That's because I am happy, Maria. So, what did you want to talk to me about?
MARIA: First, Jude seems a little worried about you. What's going on?
ANNIE: Gregory might be getting out of jail in two weeks. If Jude can't stop he'll be on the loose and he'll want his revenge.
MARIA: Oh my God. That's terrible. But, listen, Jude will take care of you and his children. I really don't think you have anything to worry about.
ANNIE: I hope you're right. What did you want to talk to me about?
MARIA: Um, Ross.
ANNIE: I really like him, Maria.
MARIA: So do I. I think there may be more though.
ANNIE: Like what? Love?
MARIA: I don't know. He and I get along so well. It's like we just click and everything seems to work out. It's only been two months though.
ANNIE: Maria, how long have I known Jude?
MARIA: Since September.
ANNIE: And I've never felt this way about anyone and it hasn't changed since I first realized he really wanted to be with me. So, follow your instincts. If they tell you to move forward, then move forward. I learned a very important lesson: let love happen.
MARIA: Okay.
ANNIE: Is that what you wanted to talk about?
MARIA: Ross and I made love last night.
ANNIE: And?
MARIA: And it was amazing. He's, I can't really put it into words, but it's an incredible feeling I get when he's around.
ANNIE: I've been there.
MARIA: Yeah?
ANNIE: Everyday, I still am there.
MARIA: I've missed these talks we used to have. Where we'd just gossip about all the girlie stuff.
ANNIE: So do I. I want to take you and Ross and Jude to lunch tomorrow or the day after, whatever works.
MARIA: Okay. It'll be great. But I'd better get going I have to pick Benjy up from school.
ANNIE: Okay. Just remember, let it happen. No matter what happens. I love you.
MARIA: I love you too.
Maria opens the door to leave and finds Evelyn and David there.
ANNIE: What are you two doing here?
EVELYN: I wanted to talk to you.
DAVID: I drove her here.
MARIA: Call me later about lunch, Annie.
ANNIE: I will.
Maria leaves.
ANNIE: Come on in you two. Close the door.
EVELYN: Can we talk alone? Sorry, David.
DAVID: It's okay, I'll wait on the porch.
ANNIE: You can go into the kitchen with Jude.
DAVID: Okay.
David goes into the kitchen.
ANNIE: What did you want to talk about?
EVELYN: Us. We haven't gotten a chance to have a good conversation in a long time. I think we need to.
ANNIE: Okay.
EVELYN: I'm going to sit down.
ANNIE: I will too then.
EVELYN: Sorry about Gregory getting out. But if anyone can stop him you know who it is.
ANNIE: He can do anything.
EVELYN: I also want to apologize for what I said to you that day at the house. About being a lying slut. I am so sorry, Annie. I didn't mean any of it.
ANNIE: I know you didn't mean any of it. And I'm not going to lie to you, it hurt me. But I have done some pretty stupid things in my day.
EVELYN: So, we're okay? We were always more friends than cousins, is that still the same?
ANNIE: Yes.
EVELYN: Good. So, how's the pregnancy going?
ANNIE: It's starting to affect me. I'm constantly tired. And hungry.
EVELYN: I guess a big wardrobe change is coming. You're already dressing differently.
ANNIE: I have a regular nine to five job now, I can't wear mini skirts and halter tops to work. I have to prove to them that I'm capable of doing my job.
The night goes on nicely with David and Evelyn staying and the group ordering out for Chinese food.
