Episode #7
Troublesome Revelations, Part One

For storyline sake we're going to pretend that Evelyn has been getting drunk and David has been hiding it for two months now. There is a lot of the teens in this, because they have a part in Annie and Gregory's court scenes.

Bette and AJ are walking into the house after having breakfast at Grenadine's. She seems bothered.

AJ: Why don't you tell me what's wrong, dear?

BETTE: It's nothing, really.

AJ: Bette....

BETTE: Okay, okay. It's two things actually. No, no, make that four.

AJ: That's quite a bit. Sit down, we'll talk about them.

BETTE: First, I would like to know why Evelyn didn't come home until very early this morning. I saw her asleep in her oom before we left and I assume she's still asleep. I can't wait to talk to her.

AJ: I'm sure there is a perfectly logical explanation for that. And I would also like to hear it.

BETTE: The second and third sort of tie in. I don't like that so soon after they find out they're brothers Cole and Jude can't be in the same room without Cole hitting Jude. You saw how bruised his face was and then Cole comes in and before a hello or anything he hits him again. Second, have you noticed how secretive Poopsie and Jude have been lately? Something's going on. I thought Annie had every intention of sharing everything with me now. I understand some things are best kept between lovers, but I have a feeling about this one.

AJ: I am sure that in time everything you want to know about will be revealed. As much as I dislike that my sons are fighting, I have to trust that they will work it out. Now, what is this fourth thing?

BETTE: The note that Jeffrey gave me before he died.

AJ: You didn't give it to the police.

BETTE: I can't help feeling that something is wrong and that I need to keep this to figure out what. I've got to figure it out and I know exactly who can help me.

AJ: Do what ever it is you have to and I will be behind you all the way. I love you, Bette. We're going to be married soon.

BETTE: Oh, I love you too. You have no idea how long I've waited to hear those words from you.

AJ: My love is something you will always have.

They smile at one another, but we can tell Bette is still bothered by this piece of paper.

Amy and Brad are sitting at his kitchen table, he has a doughnut.

AMY: Brad, you will be happy to know I have made a command decision.

BRAD: What about?

AMY: Sean.

BRAD: Richards? What about him?

AMY: I want him back.

BRAD: In order for you to have him back you would have had to once have had him. You never had him.

AMY: Whatever, Brad. The point is, is that I love him. And I know he loves me.

BRAD: Amy, right now Sean won't even touch you with a ten foot pole. He hates you. For real this time.

AMY: I can make that change.

BRAD: Yeah, whatever, listen, I'm late for work. I'll see you. Don't do anything stupid, Amy.

He leaves as we see that Amy is thinking.

Meg knocks on the door to Surf Central. Nick answers it.

NICK: Meg, hi.

MEG: Hey, Nick. Is Sara here? We were supposed to go over some wedding plans.

NICK: Um, yeah, she and Casey are upstairs, but they seem a little busy. If you catch my drift.

MEG: I do. I actually walked in on them yesterday.

NICK: Yeah. They've been 'busy' a lot.

MEG: I think they just missed each other while they were a part. Do you have anyone you're going to take the ball?

NICK: There's one woman I met. I might ask her. I'm going to call her later today.

MEG: Do I know her?

NICK: You might have met her once or twice. She's, um, she's been in hiding for nearly a year. Everyone thought she was dead so they could catch the man who shot her. Francesca Vargas.

MEG: She's alive?

NICK: Yeah.

MEG: And you want to ask her out?

NICK: Yes. We talked last night for hours and she's a really nice lady.

MEG: That sentence has never been said before.

NICK: Like I said, she's a nice lady.

MEG: I guess I'd have to get to know her.

NICK: Yeah. So, wedding plans?

MEG: Yes.

NICK: Shouldn't you be working on setting up the ball before the wedding?

MEG: Gabi has taken the project for herself with Vanessa and Michael. She says it keeps her mind off of other things. She got her divorce papers back yesterday. As a favor to me Ben had the divorce go through as quickly as his and Maria's.

NICK: That was quick.

MEG: How would you like to take me out to lunch?

NICK: I'd love to. If you wouldn't mind spending that time with Casey and Sara. I'm taking them out to lunch to thank them for letting me stay here.

SARA: You don't mind do you, Meg? It'll be fun.

MEG: I didn't hear you come down. Have fun?

SARA: Cute. Are you going to come?

MEG: Sure.

NICK: Great, it's settled. Give me a minute and I'll be ready. Is Casey ready to go?

SARA: He's just finishing in the shower. He'll be out soon.

NICK: Great.

Nick leaves the room.

SARA: I know where he went.

MEG: To call Francesca.

SARA: He told you?

NICK: Yeah. He seems to really like her.

SARA: Yeah. I told he should be careful though.

The two guys come in and they leave.

At Bette's house, Olivia is visiting as are Jude and Annie. It's tense, because Jude and Annie stopped by unexpectedly after Olivia. David, Emily, Leo, and Sean were in the kitchen, but have now entered the living room with everyone else.

EMILY: That was so funny.

SEAN: Oh, I know.

The front door opens and everyone looks at Evelyn, obviously drunk.

DAVID: My God.

EVELYN: Damn, there's people here. A lot of people.

BETTE: You're drunk, aren't you?

EVELYN: How very astute of you, mommy.

AJ: Evelyn, come and sit down.

EVELYN: Mmmm, no.

ANNIE: Evelyn...

EVELYN: YES! My dear, sweet, cousin, Annie. What can I do for you?

ANNIE: Sleep it off.

EVELYN: And a smart person would take that advice.

ANNIE: And you're a smart person. Trust me, sleep it off and we can all talk about this later?

EVELYN: With you?

ANNIE: Yes.

EVELYN: With Annie. My innocent cousin. Why should I listen to you?

ANNIE: Because I love you.

EVELYN: Annie, Annie, Annie, you're forgetting you're talking to someone who knows you. I don't listen to cheap sluts who sleep around to get what they want. This is a dull gathering and I'm leaving.

Before anyone can stop her she's out the door and Annie's in shock. Jude hugs her and whispers to her that it's okay and that Evelyn didn't mean any of it. David is staring at the door feeling stupid for not telling anyone.

EMILY: What happened to her?

BETTE: I want to know how long that's been going on.

DAVID: [Whispering to himself.] It's my fault.

AJ: What did you say?

DAVID: Nothing, nothing. I'll see you later.

AJ: David, wait.

AJ grabs his arm.

AJ: You said this is your fault.

BETTE: You didn't put the bottle in her hand did you?

DAVID: I did worse.

SEAN: How could have possibly.

OLIVIA: You knew, didn't you, David? You've known about this?

BETTE: This isn't the first time it's happened?

JUDE: Maybe you should sit down and tell us what you know?

DAVID: Okay. Um, every day and night since we got here I've seen her either drunk or drinking. I should have told someone. I didn't think it was my place. Last night, when she didn't come to dinner I found her drunk on the beach before I came and even worse when I saw her after I left. Annie, she didn't mean what she said. She was drunk and I know she doesn't think that about you. I am so sorry I didn't say anything. I did her more harm than good.

AJ: You're right. But we don't have time to worry about that.

AJ stand up and makes a phone call as Bette stands by. The rest just sit there and David has his head in his hands.

EMILY: You know, David, I read a poem once. It's called "Forbearance" by Ralph Waldo Emerson. And I believe what it says completely. It says that a friend doesn't judge they just help their friend in any way possible without judging and by doing that, supporting their friend, they are helping in the best way they can. I think you'll do that, because I believe you care about my sister and want to help her. I know that when she's sober she really cares for you as a friend too.

LEO: I just have one question.

DAVID: What?

LEO: Is this the secret that you two have been keeping?

DAVID: She never asked me to keep this a secret. That secret is something totally different.

JUDE: Maybe you'd better tell us before someone gets hurt.

DAVID: No one will get hurt by this secret. It's a totally different kind of secret.

JUDE: If it hurts this family I will be very upset.

DAVID: Trust me- Bad choice of words, I have no right to ask for that now. This will not hurt anyone. It's more like a fun secret.

SEAN: Every secret has a way of getting out.

JUDE: I'm going to make a few calls.

Jude stands and goes to a corner to make his calls.

ANNIE: He isn't upset. He's just frustrated that he didn't know and couldn't do anything to help.

OLIVIA: You did what you thought was best. I know what Evelyn's going through and she's probably happy that knowing what you did know that you were still her friend.

DAVID: What about Bette and AJ?

SEAN: They'll get over it once everything is cool with their daughter. But I'm going to say this nicely. Get over your guilt trip. This isn't about you, it's about finding Evelyn.

DAVID: You're right.

Bette and AJ walk over to them.

BETTE: Um, there's not really anything you guys can do here. Why don't you go do something to get your minds off of it?

AJ: Please, do. Besides, I think Bette and I would like some time to ourselves to think.

OLIVIA: Is there anything you need before I go?

BETTE: No, thank you.

EMILY: We'll check in, Mom.

The four teens leave, as well as Olivia.

DAVID: I'm sorry, Bette, AJ. I'm going to help Evelyn as much as I possibly can when we find her.

BETTE: It's okay, David. I know that you care.

He leaves. Jude's still on the phone, he, Annie, Bette, and AJ are the only ones left there.

ANNIE: We'll go as soon as he gets off the phone.

AJ: Who's he talking to?

ANNIE: I think one of his contacts here in town.

Jude gets off the phone.

JUDE: I have some people out looking for her. When they find her they're going to bring her back here immediately, so don't leave. We'll leave you two alone.

BETTE: Please stay.

ANNIE: Are you sure, Aunt Bette?

AJ: I can't think of two other people's company we'd like to have at this time.

ANNIE: Do you want some water, or something, Aunt Bette?

JUDE: I'll get. Sit down, Annie, please.

ANNIE: Okay.

JUDE: Water, Bette?

BETTE: Thank you, handsome.

AJ: I cannot believe what has happened.

Jude's getting water now.

BETTE: My little girl has been getting drunk for two months nonstop.

ANNIE: It's like a two month bender.

AJ: Let's jus hope we can find her.

They sit together talking.

Eddie's wakling through town and Ricardo walks up to him.

RICARDO: Eddie, can I talk to you for a minute?

EDDIE: Sure. What about, Ricky?

RICARDO: Never call me that again. And do you mind taking a walk with me?

EDDIE: Where are we going?

RICARDO: I have a proposition for you.

EDDIE: I am always one for those.

They walk off and soon arrive at an office building. Ricardo takes Eddie upstairs to a section with two small offices and a waiting area that is even smaller, both very sparse.

RICARDO: I'm sure that you need a job.

EDDIE: What gave you that impression.

RICARDO: The fact that you wander around town aimlessly.

EDDIE: Yeah, but the question was rhetorical.

RICARDO: Whatever. Listen, we can take separate cases unless they're big ones in which case we split the pay after bills are taken care of. Cases of our own we get the pay for ourselves after splitting the bills half way.

EDDIE: You're offering me a job?

RICARDO: A partnership.

EDDIE: In your new private investigating service?

RICARDO: Torres and Connors.

EDDIE: Why does your name go first?

RICARDO: You want the job or not, Eddie? You probably won't have another offer like it. And you're lucky it's coming from me. Especially knowing what I know about you.

EDDIE: I'll start tomorrow. It's getting late.

RICARDO: I'll see you tomorrow.

EDDIE: Which is my office?

RICARDO: The one on the left.

EDDIE: This is the beginning of an interesting partnership.

As Ricardo leaves a smirk crosses Eddie's face. He pauses for a moment looks around the new digs and walks out whistling.

Sean, Emily, Leo, and David are at some club. It's hopping and very crowded. David is walking out of the bathroom and Evelyn walks in, very drunk. They bump into each other. Sirens start blaring and for some reasons police start to raid the place. Some guy runs by and hands a gun to Evelyn. David tries to grab the gun.

EVELYN: Id, how many times to I have to tell you that I am a big girl and can handle myself?

He tries to grab the gun and it goes off, a few yards away it hits Emily in the arm. Sean and Leo help her to the ground as a few cops gather around her and call for paramedics. Another two cops head to David, who got a hold of the gun, and Evelyn. Their weapons are raised.

COP #1: Who fired the shot?

Neither answers, David because he's in shock, Evelyn because she's too drunk. They are both arrested. The paramedics care for Emily's arm, only a flesh wound, at the scene and they run to get Bette.

Once at the station, David is making his phone call.

DAVID: Bette, it's David. You need to get down to the police station, I've got Evelyn here. And call my Mom.

Ruiz walks up.

RUIZ: Time's up, Richards.

DAVID: Just another second.

RUIZ: The DA already is watching me, I can't, sorry.

Ruiz hangs the phone us while Bette's trying to get information.

Twenty minutes later Bette, AJ, Olivia, and Caitlin run into the station. Bette makes a bee line for Ruiz.

BETTE: Oscar, where is my daughter? What happened to her?

RUIZ: Your daughter?

AJ: Evelyn Deschanel.

RUIZ: I didn't know she was your daughter, Bette. I would have called you myself.

BETTE: Which I would have appreciated, but where is she?

RUIZ: She is in the cell with David Richards.

Spencer walks up.

SPENCER: Hi, Bette.

BETTE: Hi. Can I see her? Why is she in the cell?

SPENCER: Who?

BETTE: My daughter, Evelyn.

SPENCER: Deschanel? I just arrested her and David Richards for possession of a deadly weapon. They had a gun and one of them shot Emily Davis. Richards says he did it, but she's too drunk to say anything.

BETTE: Emily was shot?!

Emily, Leo, and Sean walk into the station. Emily has a bandage on her arm.

EMILY: I'm fine Mom, it's just a flesh wound. Doesn't even hurt.

LEO: How's Evelyn? We saw them take her and David in the police car.

OLIVIA: We're trying to get into see them.

RUIZ: I'll take you to them.

They go and get to the cell where David and Evelyn both are.

EVELYN: Mom, dad! Have you met my good friend Id? He says I'm drunk.

BETTE: Can we take her home, Oscar?

RUIZ: The judge wants to see both of them in the morning for a hearing to decide whether or not to proceed since they've both been charged. I'm going to let you take them only if you promise to sober her up and I never want to see her in that cell again.

Spence, who went with them, opens the cell and David walks out. Leo goes in and practically drags his sister out. Bette stops David. Spence and Ruiz have left the family alone.

BETTE: Who pulled the trigger, David?

DAVID: She did, it was an accident though. I bumped into her, obviously she's worse than she was, and the cops were coming and some guy handed her a gun. I tried to get it from her and she fired and hit Emily. I got a hold of the gun, but because we were standing so close together the cops couldn't tell and since she was drunk they arrested us both. I'm sorry, I couldn't stop it. I tried.

BETTE: I know you did.

AJ: We should get her home.

CAITLIN: Are you okay, David?

DAVID: I'm fine. But I'd like to go with AJ and Bette. Let me stay with her?

AJ: All right.

LEO: We should get her home. She's getting a little heavy.

BETTE: Are you sure you're all right, Kitten?

EMILY: I'm fine, Mom. I'm just worried about Evelyn.

DAVID: I haven't seen her this drunk.

OLIVIA: David, I'd like for you to come home.

DAVID: I want to stay with Evelyn. I'm stopping at home to get something to wear for court tomorrow morning and then I'm going to Bette and AJ's. I hope you and Cait will be there in the morning.

CAITLIN: I will definitely be there, David.

OLIVIA: As will I. I'll be standing behind you one hundred percent.

BETTE: Livie, I'm sorry that David was dragged into this. If I had known...

OLIVIA: Bette, I know what Evelyn is going through and what she will be going through. I hold nothing against her.

AJ: Thank you, Olivia.

They leave the station. Leo has picked up Evelyn and is carrying her.

At Maria's house her and Ross' date is coming to an end and they're watching a movie, The Last of the Mohicans, on television.

MARIA: I love this movie.

ROSS: It's...

MARIA: Go ahead, say it, it's a chick flick.

ROSS: Well, yeah. But it's okay. I'm enjoying that you're enjoying it.

MARIA: Daniel Day-Lewis is my favorite.

ROSS: Really? I've never seen him in anything I like. I do see something I like though.

MARIA: Madeline Stowe?

ROSS: You.

He kisses her and they start making out on the sofa. Soon their taking each other's clothes off. The Bic Runga song "Sway"* is playing.

ROSS: Are you sure about this?

MARIA: Are you?

They answer each other by sharing another passionate kiss. The scene changes to them in Maria's room making love on the bed.

Leo, still carrying Evelyn, walks into Bette's house, followed by Sean, Emily, Bette and AJ. Annie is asleep with her head in Jude's lap as he reads a book.

JUDE: How is she?

LEO: She passed out the minute I carried her out of her cell, because she was too drunk to walk herself.

JUDE: What cell?

BETTE: She and David were arrested for possession of a deadly weapon and shooting Emily.

AJ: Leo, we should get her to bed. She has a big day tomorrow.

JUDE: Could you whisper, I don't want to wake up Annie?

ANNIE: I'm awake.

AJ: I'm sorry, Annie.

ANNIE: Don't worry about it. Was I dreaming or did Evelyn shoot Emily?

SEAN: You heard right.

ANNIE: Are you okay, Emily?

EMILY: I'm fine, it's just a little scratch.
Sway:
Don't stray
Don't ever go away
I should be much to smart for this
You know it gets the better
Of me
Sometimes
When you and I collide
I fall into an ocean of you
Pull me out in time
Don't let me drown
Let me down
I say it's all because of you
And here I
Go
Losing my
Control
I'm practising your name
So I can say it
To your face it doesn't
Seem right
To look you in the eye
And let all the things
You mean to me
Come tumbling out my mouth
Indeed it's time
Tell you why
I say it's
Infinitely true
Say you'll stay
Don't come and go
Like you do
Sway my way
Yeah I need to know
All about you
And there's no cure
And no way to be sure
Why everythings turned inside out
Instilling so much doubt
It makes me so tired
I feel so uninspired
My head is battling with my heart
My logic has been torn apart
And now
It all turns sour
Come sweeten
Every afternoon
Say you'll stay
Don't come and go
Like you do
Sway my way
Yeah I need to know
All about you
Say you'll Stay
Don't come and go
Like you do
Sway my way
Yeah I need to know
All about you
Its all because of you
Its all because of you
Now it all turns sour
Come sweeten
Every afternoon
It's time
Tell you why
I say it's
Infinitely true
Say you'll stay
