And here is a review of "Zooma" from "MOJO" magazine in the UK. (Sep. '99)

Long back-roomed as a picky producer and arranger (REM, Diamanda Galas, Butthole Surfers), John Paul Jones re-emerges, unexplaining, with a bass-man's album in excelsis, an instrumental set which, on an open-windowed sunny day, could knock the whole street down. Jones must feel those vibrations to his bone marrow. What he delivers to less seismic sensibilities is violent, visceral and sensuous. Brusquely titled, "Zooma", "Grind", "Goose", "B. Fingers" and "Tidal" are five tracks of thunder and speed. Well past bombastic technical display, Jones just goes for power and thrill. The other pieces are essentially for relief: jazzy, bluesy, a bit of sweet - though "Snake Eyes" takes a stunning step beyond its bass-jangling slow riff with the gorgeous melancholy of its London Symphony Orchestra string section outro ("arranged and conducted by JPJ", of course). In another 19 years he'll be 72. More! Before it's too late!
