John Paul Jones: Zooma
Since his ex partners Page and Plant no longer telephone him, JPJ has gone and made a genuine solo album. On "ZOOMA" he plays virtually all the instruments himself, from the bass and organ to the more exotic sounding kyma and mandola. When help is needed he summons the LSO.
Sadly the results of his labours are as unpalatable as Level 42 mounting an assault on Led Zep's more bombastic moments. The bulk of Zooma is made up of ponderous piece, each constructed upon the most plodding of rhythms and riddled with indulgent noodling.
It's appeal is likely to be extremely selective.
