OUTTAKES

9/68-10/68 Olympic Studios, London, England (32 min) [HIDDEN DOCUMENTS]
-Babe I'm Gonna Leave You I
-Babe I'm Gonna Leave You II
-You Shook Me
-Tribute To Bert Burns I (Baby Come On Home)
-Tribute To Bert Burns II
-Tribute To Bert Burns III
-untitled jam
The "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" takes are surely some of the highlights of of collecting Zep boots. No overdubs, no acoustic guitars, very raw, very awesome. "You Shook Me" has a long harmonica solo, but is cut. "Baby Come On Home" gets released 25 years later. The instrumental is very somber and is mostly Jones and Page messing around. Earlier takes are available of it that I don't have.
6/69 Morgan Studios, London, England (3 min) [STUDIO DAZE]
-Sugar Mama
A rare, cool outtake that was mixed for "CODA", but left off. I like it a lot. It's funky like a fox.
5/70-6/70 Headley Grange stuidios, Hampshire, England [STUDIO DAZE]
-That's The Way
-Blues Medley (inc. That's Alright Mama, Fixin' To Die)
-Since I've Been Loving You
"That's The Way" is the final take that makes it to "ZEP III"... I think it's just mixed differently. I'm not sure. (shrug) The blues medley has way more songs in it than those two... it is a rehearsal for what becomes "Hats Off To (Roy) Harper" and is sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet.
12/70-1/71 Headley Grange studios, Hampshire, England [STUDIO DAZE]
-Stairway To Heaven (instrumental take 1)
-untitled
-Black Dog (acoustic instrumental)
-Black Dog (rehearsals)
-No Quarter
-Stairway To Heaven (instrumental takes 2-4)
The first "Stairway" is not polished and has many sections which will be worked on/left off. Ever wonder what "Black Dog" would sound like acoustic and without lyrics? Here you go. I think the sound quality is normally excellent, but my copy is getting a little old now. "No Quarter" here is quite young, but still has many similar sections. Plant is humming the vocals. Takes 2-4 of "Stairway" are the faster ending part on acoustic guitar accompanied by a synth/piano bit. Two vocal takes of "Stairway" are available, but I don't have them.
12/70-1/71 Headley Grange studios, Hampshire, England [MIDNIGHT REHEARSALS filler]
-The Battle of Evermore (early vocal take)
-The Rain Song (instrumental)
-Ten Years Gone (takes 1-11)
-Night Flight
-Jimmy Page strumming acoustic and humming
-Jimmy Page acoustic (Hots On For Nowhere)
"The Battle of Evermore" has IDENTICAL music as the album, but Plant hasn't finished the vocals. He even sings part way through "that's it!" Some of the "Ten Years Gone" takes sound like "Ten Years Gone", some don't. I'm not sure what this "Night Flight" is, or if it's even different from "Physical Graffiti". Anyone know? The last two are just Jimmy Page practising and stuff like that... according to Luis Rey there are many other takes then the two I have.
5/72 Rolling Stones Mobile Studio, Stargroves, England [STUDIO DAZE]
-Walter's Walk (instrumental)
My recording is a bit fuzzy, probably due to age. This was eventually released on "CODA", but with vocals that are not present here, which is why I wrote "instrumental" up there, showing I am smart and, since I am explaining this to you, think you are not.
6/72 Electric Ladyland studios, New York, New York, USA [STUDIO DAZE]
-No Quarter (instrumental rehearsals 1-2)
-No Quarter (final outtake)
The instrumental versions are cool 'cause they show some of the directions the song took that didn't work out. John Paul Jones is The Coolest Man On Earth. The last take has Plant on it too. It's kind of similar, but has some different effects and things. Quite fascinating.
1972 some of the takes with the Bombay Orchestra (20 min)
-Four Sticks (take one)
-Friends (take one)
-Friends (take two)
-Four Sticks (take two)
-Friends (various takes)

11/73-5/74 Headley Grange studios, Hampshire, England (62 min) [HIDDEN DOCUMENTS]
-In My Time Of Dying (takes 1-5)
-Kashmir
-In The Morning I(In The Light)
-Sick Again
-instrumental
-Take Me Home I
-Trampled Underfoot (takes 1-6)[OH MY GOD! filler]
-The Wanton Song
-Take Me Home II
-In The Morning II(In The Light)
-The Rover (acoustic) [OH MY GOD! filler]
The "In My Time Of Dying" has one take that's long adn then a bunch of quick samples complete with arguments. "Kashmir" has a neat longer ending. "In The Morning" kicks ass. "Sick Again" has a little intro and some minor differences musically (I think). The instrumental sounds a bit like "Hots On For Nowhere" I guess... it is a bit strange. "Take Me Home" is unreleased and incompleted. "Trampled" is fun to hear because it's being worked on, experimented with, and rehearsed. The acoustic "The Rover" is too short.
recently discovered "Physical Graffiti" outtakes -- commonly referred to as "Oh My God!" (45 min)
-Trampled Underfoot (same take as on album, no overdubs)
-Kashmir (instrumental)
-Custard Pie (same take as on album, no overdubs)
-In The Light (early, alternate version)
-Swan Song I
-Swan Song II
-Ten Years Gone (Jimmy Page working on riffs and stuff)

Spring '75 WLIR 92.7 radio broadcast, Westbury, New York, USA (5 min) [OH MY GOD! filler]
-Wanton Song
Very raw, very rare radio broadcast recording. Not exactly live, it has an overdubbed guitar solo.
11/75 SRI Studios, Hollywood, CA, USA
-Royal Orleans (instrumental)
-Tea For One (Hoochie Coochie)
-Don't Start Me Talking/All Your Lovin'
The "Royal Orleans" is just a real brief riff. Luis Rey says it is "limited to several rhythm exercises", but I wouldn't go that far, or I may be missing some of it. The "Tea For One" has some different vocals and is a little faster, angrier. Plant is in great shape on the old blues song "Don't Start Me Talking". Was he in a wheelchair at the time?
5/78 Clearwell Castle, Forest of Dean, Wales
-Fire
-Carouselambra (takes 1-3)
"Fire" is a fasinating, uncompleted song. It's funky and moody and should have been finished, if you ask me. Take 1 of "Carouselambra" is just the beginning of the song and the vocals may or may not be different (I think some are). Take 2 has vocals and turns into a long, improvised synthesizer wandering. The final take is the fastest, longest, and best. I think the quality of my tape could be better, but it's OK.
11/78-12/78 Polar Studios, Stockholm, Sweden (6 min) [STUDIO DAZE]
-All My Love
One of the last takes, it sounds a bit faster and a little more cluttered. There's no solo in the middle. Also it has a longer ending which is nice.
