ELEGY "State Of Mind"
Finally the new album from Dutch power progsters Elegy is out, after the warmly welcomed "Lost" and some recent line-up changes. To make a bit of clearance about that, we have to say that the band lost former singer Eduard Hovinga, who have been substituted by the veteran Ian Parry, and now Elegy have no more an official keyboard player. For what concerns "State Of Mind", the first evident thing is that the music has become a bit easier and much more melodic than before, maybe thanks to Ian's personal style. The songs are all very good, especially the opener, almost progressive "Visual Vortex" the anthemic follower "Trust" and the amazing "Aladdin's Cave", surely the best tune of the album, but generally is seems like Elegy have lost some their power, composing titles that are very close to AOR. It is not surely a crime, but the band can do more dynamic things, and after the speed metal style of some of their early works, I think we should expect a bit more. However, I repeat, "State Of Mind" is an extremely enjoyable album, so if you're looking for some well done music, take this one with no fear.
LINE-UP: Ian Parry - vocals, keyboards Henk Van De Laars - guitars, keyboards Martin Helmantel - bass Dirk Bruinenberg - drums
