NRBQ, one of America's hardest working and most traveled bands, stopped in for a one night lay-over at the cozy Wings Cafe located in the Sikorsky Airport terminal in Stratford, CT. The show, piloted by Terry Adams, hit full throttle before the fans had time to fasten their seat belts. Terry, almost before sitting on his stool, took off with his piano solo intro to "RC Cola and a Moon Pie." Shortly after, Terry hit the afterburners sending the show into orbit with "Rocket in my Pocket."
NRBQ's band members, Terry on piano and keyboard, brothers Joey and Johnny Spampinato on bass and guitar, and drummer Tommy Ardolino, played a mix of NRBQ classics and some new material. In addition the show featured some lighthearted entertainment when Tommy took lead vocals for a Harry Bellafonte inspired "Kingston Street" (with each band member wearing straw hats) and a comical karoke duet with Tommy and Terry singing the Righteous Brother's "You've Lost That Loving Feeling," reminiscent of the Top Gun bar scene between Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis. The 25 song show was brought in for a smooth landing with NRBQ standards, "Riding in my Car," and "Wild Weekend," but anyone who exited before the ride had finished taxiing missed a two song encore featuring Johnny's guitar solo on "Feel So Good," and his high energy lyrics on "You Gotta Be Loose."
Typical of NRBQ shows, passengers were advised to leave their seats, but with caution because items did move during this ride.
