Jethro Tull

Oakdale - August 8, 1997

Ian Anderson and Jonathan Noyce

At approx. 8:00 pm, the legendary rock band Jethro Tull took the stage in front of a full house at the Oakdale Musical Theatre. Opening the show with A Song For Jeffrey (which was performed at the Rolling Stones Rock N Roll Circus in the late sixties) was a great opening, setting the pace for a mix of new and old songs from the band. Next up was the classic Aqualung. Other songs included The Whistler, My God, Bouree, Thick As A Brick, Beside Myself, Farm On The Freeway, and a medley of Bungle In The Jungle/The Teacher/Minstrel. The band performed for approx. 2 hrs., with a short intermission break after the first 1 hr. set. Ian paraded the entire stage throughout the night, while singing, playing acoustic guitar, and playing flute, all extremely well. Where does he get his energy from? Martin Barre was excellent all night. Playing some tasty leads and even some flute, proving he is still one of the best musicians around today. Doane Perry pounded the drums, sounding excellent throughout every song. Jonathan Noyce on bass and Andy Giddings on keyboards were also great, rounding out this incredible evening. Jethro Tull ended their final set with Locomotive Breath while the fans began rushing the stage in joy.The band came out to do a blues medley for an encore. This was truly a magical night. If Tull is in your area, go see them! You won’t be disappointed. A terrific show!
