April 18 – Mid-Atlantic Ski Hall of Fame Banquet of Champions

 

RACE INFORMATION

 

WASHINGTON CUP: The Washington Cup/Mid-Atlantic Ski Cup is open to all adult individuals ages 18 and over and clubs/teams comprised of adults ages 18 and over. All adult skiers may participate except those declared ineligible (see below). Classes for men and women by age are: A(18-29), B(30-39), C(40-49), D(50-59), E(60-69), F(70 plus). Medals are awarded to the top three individuals by class at each race. At the end of the year, the top three clubs/teams and the top three men and women in each class will be awarded trophies. In addition, the winning club and the first place male and female winners overall will be inducted into the Mid-Atlantic Ski Hall of Fame.

 

SCHOLASTIC CUP: The Scholastic Cup/Mid-Atlantic Scholastic Cup is open to all skiers 17 years old and under. Classes for boys and girls by age are: A(3-7), B(8-12), C(13-17). Medals are awarded to the top three individuals by class at each race. At the end of the year the top three male and female racers and the winning team will be awarded a trophy.

 

SCORING: Winning championship trophies for the Washington Cup and the Scholastic Cup is based on the total points earned during the entire race season. Competitors must enter fort races or more to be considered eligible for the championship. For the Washington Cup, individual points given to male and female racers overall will be 20 points for 1st, 19 for 2nd…down to 1 point for 20th place. Individual points given to male and female racers in their class will be 10 points for 1st, 9 for 2nd... down to1 point for 10th. Team scores for the Washington Cup and the Scholastic Cup will be based on the total points a team accumulates from each age group for both male and female racers, 10 for 1st, 9 for 2nd...down to 1 for 10th. For the Scholastic Cup, individual points given to male and female racers will be 10 for 1st, 9 for 2nd, … 1 for 10th.

 

ELIGIBILITY FOR ALL THE ABOVE RACES: All skiers are eligible to race except those declared ineligible. Ineligible skiers are those that are presently compensated for skiing, paid ski patrollers, paid ski instructors, paid factory representatives and all ski racing coaches, paid or voluntary, among others These paid skiers are considered professionals. All other shop and ski area employees are eligible. This includes lift operators, ski shop employees, cafeteria workers, office personnel and all others not being paid to be on skis.

 

GENERAL RULES FOR ALL THE ABOVE RACES: Racers can represent only one team/club and may compete on skis, snowboards, telemarkers or skiboards. Race entry fee is $10 for two runs. Discounted lift tickets will be available to all racers. To qualify and have your run count, you must successfully complete the course. For this you must correctly ski around all the gates with both skis otherwise you will be disqualified. If you false start or fall before successfully completing or correctly skiing around or past the second gate from the start, you may restart once. If you fall below after successfully completing or correctly skiing around or past the second gate from the finish, you may complete the race on one ski or on foot. Elsewhere on the course you must be on two skis. If you can’t put on lost skis and continue ahead of the following skier, you must ski off the course. Restarts will be allowed for timer malfunction or course interference. If you feel you had interference, you must ski off the course and request a rerun. If you ski through the finish line, that will be your race time. Register at the ski area on the day of the race from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the WSI desk and ask about discount lift tickets. All races start promptly at 11:00 a.m. except as noted. Race results will be available and medals presented at 3:00 p.m. Race number bibs must be worn in front on the chest where visible and promptly returned to WSI after the second run.
