This was the first time a Beatle performed live in Brazil, taking thousands of people to Maracanã (the biggest soccer stadium in the world), despite of the bad weather in Rio during those days. The Friday 21 concert had 135000 people, and the Saturday 23 achieved 184000 fans, being the biggest concert made by a solo artist until that date. The highlights of the show were of course the Beatles songs, as "Yesterday" and "Hey Jude", with hundreds of thousands of people singing along in the rain.
George Martin would conduct the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra playing the
most famous Beatles songs in orchestral arrangements, supported by a
choir and a band of selected musicians, in an open concert at the park
Quinta da Boa Vista.
Unfortunately, as in the first Paul's concerts, there was a heavy rain that
day. As the stage didn't have a roof, the organizers waited for 1:30 hour,
but it didn't stop raining, so the orchestra could not perform.
Finally, they decided to present only some of the songs, played by the band
and sung by the choir conducted by George Martin. Although the show was
not complete, it was definitely an anthological happening for the thousands
of faithful Beatlefans that stayed in the rain for hours.
Date: December 5, 1993
Place: Curitiba
Paul McCartney came again in 1993 to perform again, this time in other cities. Another great success, although the public was not so huge as before: there wasn't the same impact as his first visit, and the places aren't big enough.
