The "Compact Records"
In Brazil, a 7-inch vinyl record was called "Compacto" (Compact). There
were two kinds of "compactos": with one song on each side - Compacto Simples
(single compact) and two songs on each side - Compacto Duplo (double compact).
They were very similar to the European and American singles and EPs,
with one major difference: they used to run at 33 1/3 rpm (not 45 rpm).
Because of this, I decided to call them "compact records" (after the Brazilian
name) instead of "singles and EPs". I should remind that this format
originated abroad the "CD5" or "CD single", which features the main
working track, plus some bonus tracks not included on albums.
