Leo Gorcey and Ghandi were painted out of Sgt. Pepper's cover after the photograph had been taken. The first requested a fee, and the last by request of EMI.

In the list of people John would include in the cover, were Ghandi, Jesus and, more cynically, Adolf Hitler. Jesus was not included because of the US furor about John's words in a tabloid: "The Beatles are bigger than Jesus".

Sgt. Pepper's LHCB was the first album to include printed lyrics, and it was one of the first to have a gatefold sleeve. It also was the first one to feature "cut-outs": a moustache, a picture card, stripes, badges and a stand up.

John's idea for Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite! came after he had bought an old circus poster (Pablo's Fanque Circus Royal, Town Meadows, Rochdale) at an antique shop.

John had another idea for a song after seen one of Julian's (his son) drawings, featuring a girl called Lucy, in the sky, with diamonds. So, it has no link with LSD (Lissergic Acid), as many people say.
