After OVER THREE YEARS of silence, a new RANT MACHINE (TM) has been inspired. What could prompt such a reaction, you ask? Why, the Tech-Tards over at Eastlink, of course! I found out today when my dad accidentally dialed my old phone number that when I moved and had my Eastlink phone cancelled almost a year ago, they left the voicemail active. What the hell? People kept calling and leaving messages for me until the mailbox was full. I spent aboot a half hour on New Year's day in 2006 clearing out a voicemail box that should have been shut off back in late February of 2005. Then I changed the greeting so that anyone who happens to call my old phone number will know that it no longer exists, and not to leave a message there. Cory's cell number no longer exists, either, and that was one of the things I had included in the old greeting.

So I called technical support. Right now, I am waiting in queue. I will complete this entry after I have spoken to them. If I know the Tech-Tards (and I do), there will be more hikinks before this is solved...

Wow. Cleared up with very little fuss. Turns out that even though there was a new phone hooked up at my old apartment and my landline account was cancelled, some Tech-Tard forgot to shut off the phone number (which exists only on the system). The NON-Tech-Tard with whom I spoke explained to me that the phone number should have been ported back to Aliant last year, but some Tech-Tard must have forgotten. Since today is a Sunday AND a holiday, he just removed the voicemail service from the phone number for now and noted on the account for the number to be released back the first business day.
