Barn Dance Review - March 1997

From: Ted Samsel (tejas@INFI.NET)
Subject: Capital City Barn Dance #1

If the upcoming Capital City Barn Dances (one a month, they hope) are as successful as the event held Friday, they should prove to be a viable venue (I hate that word) for BG & OT (and other roots country) groups pickin' and/or traveling to the MidAtlantic. The relatively unknown Slack Family led off with reputable bluegrass which was followed by DIRTBALL and thence USED CARLOTTA...(these guys are not bluegrass per se, but use the banjar and mana'lin in their respective musics and prostrate themselves at the altar of the True Hank as well they should!)

And all this with a family oriented early show in a hall that usually specializes in headbanging metal & contempo disco for the collitch raisins.Only negative was the bouncers in their Po-lice Akademy athlete drag. Big old boyz they wuz. They oughta at least dress in overhauls and bandannas so's we cain't see their Metallica calf tattoos.

Next month's lineup will include SIX STRING DRAG and SNOCK AND THE BOYDS, Michael Hurley's current entourage. April 18 at the FLOOD ZONE in Richmond, VA... show starts promptly at 8PM.
