East Rutherford: Continental Arena- January 12, 1998

As Liam or Noel would put it, the January 12th Continental Airlines Arena show was "fucking top." I can honestly say that it was one of the best days of my life. (not like a lot has gone well for me or anything.) Me and my partay arrived at about 6:45, and we just walked around, baught some suvioners etc. and went back to our seats, anxious to see this band "Conershop" open up.

God They sucked. First of all, the lead singer almost whisperd the words, and they were not even in English. Then some dick in the audience kept shining a lazer pointer on everyone, so it took away from the mood. I'm not sure whether they got booed off stage, or just played like 5 songs, but either way, it was a waste of time, and I can see why most of the ppl didn't show up until about 8:30. 8:30 comes, and my heart is racing. This is basically what my goal in life was, to see my favourite band in concert. The lights went down, and The Boys Are Back In Town played in the backround as the crowd bagan to scream.

The feeling was utopia, a pure utopia as Liam Noel, Bonehead, Guigsy, and Whitey strutted out onto the stage. They opened with a loud rocking version of Be Here Now, and from that, basically launched into Stand By Me. Liam was his usual self, throwing his tambourine around and making strange side comments while Noel walked around his little corner with his guitar. Supersonic follow suit, and the noise kinda died down once it started :::coughes out "posers"::: but I was up and screaming out. Roll With It was next, and the crowd got back into it, and then Noel took out that classic red epiphone guitar and D'You Know What I Mean rang out loud and true. Now as we walked in, I noticed the 'No Smoking' signs everywhere around the building, but I guess weed doesn't count, cause the place wafted with the smell of it (I didn't do any...honeslty).

After DKWIM, Noel was left on stage, and he played a bunch of acoustics that included Don't Go Away, Talk Tonight (the first shocker of the night, no one around me knew the words) and Whatever (amazing). Then they came back out for Noel to go on with Don't Look Back In Anger. Liam walked back out, and they continued with Cigarettes And Alcohol. Live Forever was the next up, and the whole place sang along with Liam (how cute). Then another shocker came, It's Getting Better (Man), my fav. song from Be Here Now. Once again, most of the people sat back down, and left me up on my feet singing along. Liam then said something about this being either "the last one" or "the last beer" (i'm gonna go with the latter) and a loud elongated version of Champaigne Supernova followed, and basically it dragged on for about 15 minutes, but it still sounded excellent. As people began to leave, I stayed hoping for an encore, and out of their hat Aquiesce came. I was kinda shocked, not because I didn't think they'd play it, but because they'd end with it, when the tour is called "All Around The World." Anyway, on the drive home we listend to KROQ talk about the show, and I got a little sleep last night...
