The Ballad of Iggy Pop
Like many people my age, I was first exposed to Iggy Pop in my early teens as the guy who played Mr. Mecklenberg on Nickelodeon's The Adventures of Pete & Pete. I was only dimly aware that he was some old rockero.
By the time I was 20 or so I knew a little more about music and was familiar with some of Iggy's songs (especially "Song from Trainspotting", "Music for a Mitsubishi Commercial", and the haunting "Theme from Royal Caribbean Ad"). I liked what I had heard, and eventually decided to pick up his "best of" CD, Nude and Rude. I enjoyed it a lot.
I never thought things would go farther than that.
Then, months later, Iggy Pop visited me in a series of dreams.
He had a special message for me.
My life would never be the same.

Malibu-era Iggy (1974?) - wearing some really cute boots and not much else.
Malibu Iggy - looking very pretty in what appears to be a ladies blouse.
Iggy holding a book - I keep a copy of this picture for good luck.
Iggy in a Mac commercial - 2001's "Rip. Mix. Burn." campaign. See the full ad here (dead link).
Iggy in the same commercial - demonstrating the recreational use of jumper cables.
Iggy as an alien on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - I never saw this show, but apparently he was a minor villain in one episode.

PS: Since I get a lot of hits in regard to this, I'll spoil my own joke and tell you that the song in the Royal Caribbean ad is "Lust for Life".
