What a peaceful sleeper you are tonight
I silently settle on the edge of your bed
Your breathing is quiet as you rest your head,
As I brush the hair away from your face
We looked at you with eyes full of pride
You gave us such joy and made our lives richer
With new steps and words came a new disposition
Now on your cheek I place a soft kiss
For so many days and so many years
Now whatever we accomplish, whatever we seek
No cares, no worries, such a heavenly sight
Deep in your slumber, absorbed in a dream
Your golden hair shines in the moon's hazy beam
And wonder what lies in the years still ahead
Where has the time gone, you've grown so much
The years have passed in such a rush
Your dreams full of heros from the books that we've read
The toys that you play with are asleep 'til you wake,
Bright-eyed and ready for another new day
My thoughts wander back to time far away
Bittersweet memories of your newborn cries
Those days seemed to pass before our weary eyes
On the day you were born, your dad and I cried
We could not believe how we'd been blessed
With a new little person to add to our nest
With more love to give, we gave you a sister
You both learned to crawl and soon after to walk
With struggling tongues you began to talk
From baby to child is a tough transition
Through endless diapers and sleepless nights
Your babyhood days just flew out of sight
And cherish these moments I greatly will miss
With a heavy heart I gaze down upon you
Though I know there's so much still left to do
You and your sister will be with us here
But I know these days will pass sure and swift
So this time I must treasure as God's precious gift
Our wish has been granted, our lives are complete
With hearts full of love and a home that is whole
It is time to sit back and watch you both grow.
