News April 5th
Unfortunately, there is no exciting news today.
I'm going to go over what I think we should request to be
in some of the upgrade that we get (downloadable).
News April 6th
Todays news is my thoughts about how the online games
are gonna work. Please keep in mind these are only
my guesses on what's gonna happen with the Net Link
games and are in no way TRUE!
Ok for 1, I think Sega is gonna release actual games
within the next month and ½ and will cost around
$30-$40 a peice. On the games, there will be a feature to
connect to someone by typing in (and/or save number feature)
and you call directly to someone who on the other end sets
his/hers option to "wait for call" or something.
And that will be free of charge to connect that way.
Sega's second option to connect (for avoiding long distance
chargres) will be to connect while connected online.
I think Sega will have a site made up just for connecting
(like a Net Work) and will change a monthy fee. I'm guessing
around $10-$15 a month for unlimited time/connects.
And the reason Sega will charge a monthy fee is because
connecting online will have it's advantages over Direct
Dialing. For 1, it will be free of any phone charges
to play against someone in other states. (Oh bye the way,
it WAS confirmed there will be a direct dial option already)
And the other advantage will be that you can connect
with more than 2 players at once. Possibly using ip addresses
that you type right in the game. I have a feeling
some games will be a little more expensive such as Quake.
Games that I believe will be out first is Sega Rally Plus,
and Duke Nukem 3D. There's one thing I'm hoping for...
that we get the ability to type messages like in a chat
room to the other player while you beat them to a bloody
pulp. Um...that's about all I have....let's see how close I
am when Sega makes the games announcement soon! Remember,
this is all false and is what I think is gonna happen.
Don't get your hopes up...I may be WAY off! The only thing
true is the Direct Dial option. Be here tomorrow for
the upgrade to download right off my site in case Planet
Web or Sega is lagging. I'll have pros and cons about the
upgrade also!
News April 7th
Great news for today! For one, the Net Link Beta Version
1.116 came out today and is out at both
Sega and PlanetWeb
to download for free. The upgrade takes exactly 1:53 to
downalod. It disconnects you, then resets your Saturn
with the Upgrade in place! As understood, this upgrade
has a FORM of frames, no keyboard lockup, and smooth page
loading. I did find other "cool" little things they added
such as saving what you entered at cgi-bin places. Like
when you're updating your page, you can hit "back" and it
will bring you right back to where you were without having to
re-type all the info back in. This is especially good for
those with angelfire pages. I talked to Paul at Sega again.
Supposedly, the games announcement will be made
in less than or this week! IRC chat will aslo be here in
a week...I actually got a chance along with other Net Linkers
to "test" the IRC chat out and boy let me tell you,
you will never go to another web-baised chat again! WOW!
If you have a Net Link,
email me and I'll tell you the URL for the IRC chat.
:) shhhh!!
Bugs: I did find my Saturn freeze twice while deleting my
e-mail. I pressed "stop" during mid-delete then it said,
"too much e-mail" or whatever and BAM! Froze. Also, I had
WBS slow WAAAYY down to where it was starting to double
type. hmmm oh well, this will be fixed soon enough. I
seen a secret Sega site where it looked as if you can
play Sega right there online! It said, "I want to dial
the number" and "I want to recieve the call". COOL! Sega
Rally is now confirmed to be the first Net Link game out.
I may be back later tonight with more news. :) Good luck
with the great new browser!
