Noel Gallagher writes all of Oasis' songs and has often been called the best songwriter of the '90s. In fact, he has often been compared to John Lennon in terms of songwriting and even vocals. Noel does backing vocals on such songs as "Slide Away" and "Wonderwall". He also does the lead vocals on such songs as "Take Me Away", "Half the World Away", "Don't Look Back in Anger" and "Step Out"; he also sings some songs live(during his acoustic set) that Liam normally sings.
Noel started developing his musical talent at the tender age of six when he found his father's old acoustic guitar. After a while, he learned to play it pretty well; then someone came along and tuned it up, so he had to start all over. He received his very own guitar when he was about 16 years old. At first he didn't play it much, but when he got grounded for breaking into a store with one of his friends, he had a lot of free time in which to play his guitar and write songs. He hasn't stopped since.
When Noel was about 18, he became a roadie for a local indie band called the "Inspiral Carpets". This was when he was first exposed to what being a Rock 'n' Roll star was all about. He traveled all around the world with the Carpets, tuning a guitar here and conducting a sound check there, until he finally got bored with it and decided to go back home.
Back home, he found that his younger brother Liam had started his own band called Oasis, which consisted of : Liam and vocals, Paul Arthurs on Lead Guitar, Paul McGuigan on Bass Guitar, and Tony McCarroll on drums. Noel listened to them perform and said that their music was "utter shite". He offered to join the band if and only if he would be the one to write all the songs. The band said something to the effect of "Sure.", so Noel became a member. From that point on, the band practiced and practiced Noel's songs along with Noel's version of the old Beatles hit "I am the Walrus".
Well, it didn't take too long after that for Oasis be signed on by a record label and get where they are today.
