Thursday, 11 -- Seattle, WA; Mercer Arena; sold out
No, I'm not flaming them. It's just that last night I saw them play (here in Seattle) and yes, they played well and sounded good, but the crowd. My God, I felt like an old man there! The last time they played in Seattle it was a smaller venue. Most of the audience were in their teens, and the scene was pretty pathetic, but once Oasis came on and the lights went off I was happy as a clam (and you know clams are damn happy...). Well it was the same thing last night, except the audience was even younger. Thousands of twelve year olds! Almost no one in their twenties or older except for some of the security guards. I have nothing against kids listening to Oasis, let them do their thing, but it does seem kind of sad that they make up such a massive majority in Oasis' audience. Is it this way elsewhere in the States? How about in UK? Someone's already mentioned Noel's little acoustic set. I liked how he threw in a bit of Octopus's Garden. Early on in the show Noel was flipping some guy shit for tossing a shoe on stage. Personally, I love it when Noel gives a piece of his mind. At the end, during the staple showstopper Walrus, Liam walked around fiddling with the drumsticks. He held them up and made a cross with them, as though to ward away the vampire audience. Then the lights came on and the thousands of preteens were past their bedtime, there was some brief applause, but no one seemed to think of trying to get an encore out of them. Oasis got big claps for their singles, of course, but in general the audience was pretty tame. I remember when Noel threatened to walk after the guy threw a shoe at him, "and you know we mean it", he said. I thought to myself what's really sad is that if they did walk, this crowd was so lame they probably wouldn't even riot.
Does Oasis always play all ages shows? Sure it brings in more money, but don't they feel kind of ridiculous playing to twelve year olds, like something out of Spinal Tap... I guess they don't care as long as they get paid, right?
