DEATH LINE

BIOGRAPHY

The history of Avatar started in the beginning of December of 1994, when the two young guitar players Rúben Joás and Luis Miranda decided to start a Thrash Metal band that was initially named Mercyless. This duo then progressed slowly, mostly just practicing their guitar playing.

As the need for some vocals arose, Vitor Manuel joined the gang. This arrangement didn't last too long, and after a while Luis received the vocal tasks.
In the Spring of 97 Mercyless finally grew larger with the drummer Paulo. As there was already a band named Mercyless, they then changed the band's name to Dead Line and latter on to Death Line.
In May of the same year, Death Line got a new acquisition - the rhythm guitar player Zé Pedro, who is still in the current line up.

The only thing missing for Death Line now was a bass player. The first one was named Hugo; he came in in Autumn of 97 and left shortly after. At this time Paulo had to quit Death Line due to the impossibility to conciliate his job with a band. On the beginning of 1998 Paulo Lopes joined in as bass player, but was replaced by Luis (that dropped his singing task) a couple of months afterwards.

Death Line was now short of a vocalist and a drummer. It was only in June of 98 that they discovered Pedro Mota, that became DL's current singer. In November, after a few adds being posted, Mario Lima was chosen as the new drummer.

In 1999 the band finally started to work as a quintet, giving their first concert in June 23 at the Nabab bar...
As the name Death Line was not too suggestive of the their Heavy/Thrash Metal style, the band thought about getting a new name. That might very well be Avatar, however no final decision is made so far.
