(August 6, 2002)  BULLETPROOF MONK TRADE PAPERBACK RELEASE DATE | REPORT FROM COMIC CON SAN DIEGO
According to the official Image Comics website, the Bulletproof Monk trade paperback will be released the week of August 14.  The trade paperback combines all three of the original comic's issues in one volume and includes new artwork as well as an introduction by John Woo (producer of the Bulletproof Monk movie).  This re-release has been postponed since April.  Here is the official description of the comic at the site (note: the movie is not directly based on the comic):

After saving a Tibetan village from Nazi scientists, the Bulletproof Monk disappeared into legend, leaving behind a story that has been passed down for generations and a hope for his return. Kar, a young man now living in the U.S., searches for his peoples' hero while he evades secret agents and tries to find acceptance and love in a local gang.

Filmmaker John Woo provides the introduction to this collected edition of The Bulletproof Monk mini-series. The three-part story chronicles a young man's search for a Tibetan legend. Who is the Bulletproof Monk, why are the Chinese afraid of him and where is he now? Features a new cover by Mike Oeming.

As reported before, Sean William Scott and Jamie King were at last week's Comic Con International comics convention in San Diego to preview clips from Bulletproof MonkAint-It-Cool News has a report from Phasmatrope who was there for the preview:

*One final pseudo-event I caught was a brief panel and rough preview of the Paul Hunter-directed "Bulletproof Monk" adapation, starring Chow Yun-Fat, Jamie King (formerly James), and Seann William Scott (the latter two who were both there).

It looks more or less like your standard kung fu actioner, and despite some decent mentor/student scenes being Chow and Seann, didn't look like anything we haven't seen before. I guess part of this may be having to get used to the idea of seeing Seann William Scott of "American Pie" fame in an action role where he's supposed to become this badass, but it'd be unfair to pigeonhole the dude, and anyway both he and James King seemed really excited to be involved in it.

Seann himself openly admitted to having few interests in his spare time other than watching movies, and that as an old fan of Chow Yun-Fat's work he was especially honored to be performing alongside him now. We'll see...
