(December
31, 2002 - January 1, 2003) 2002 YEAR-END REVIEW
The year 2002 was a pretty busy year for Hype Williams.
Although he only directed three videos, he had other projects to keep
him busy. The three videos he directed this year include On
The Radio (Nelly Furtado), The Color of Love
(Boyz II Men) (which he co-directed with Little X, Benny Boom,
& Chris Robinson), and Breathe (Blu Cantrell).
Hype was also busy directing commercials for Sega, Reebok, &
Toyota. This year, Hype also secured a development deal with
NBC, signed with production company RSA, and even released a DVD
compilation of his videos. In 2003, we hope to see Hype make a
comeback to the music video scene, as well as hear more about his
still-in-development movie adaptation of Speed Racer.

BLU CANTRELL VIDEO
We haven't seen any new videos from Hype Williams in the past
year. The last full video he directed was Nelly Furtado's ...On The Radio. Then there was Boyz II Men's
The
Color Of Love, which he shared duties with Little X, Chris Robinson,
& Benny Boom. We mentioned back in October that Hype Williams had shot a new
video for Blu Cantrell. The video, Breathe,
has been out for the past few weeks online on Blastro.com.
It was most recently seen on MuchMusic in Canada this past
weekend. No word on if it has aired on BET or MTV yet. The video has Blu
cruising around L.A. in her
baby-blue car.

BLU CANTRELL & BUSTA VIDEOS
Business industry publications Brandweek & Business Wire reported 2
weeks ago that Hype Williams has directed a new 30 second commercial
for the new video game Sega Sports NBA 2K3 for Sony Playstation
2, Microsoft Xbox, and Nintendo Game Cube. The commercial
clip showcases key NBA athletes and their moves including dunks from
Toronto Raptors' Vince Carter; three point shots from Seattle
Supersonics' Gary Payton; and defense from Detroit Pistons' Ben
Wallace. The commercial premiered October 10 on both
broadcast and cable networks including CBS, ESPN, and MTV. This
is not the first time that Hype has directed commercials for athletic
products, featuring athletes. In February 2002 Hype directed 2
commercials as part of Reebok's Sounds & Rhythm of Sports
campaign, which featured NBA players Allen Iverson and Steve Francis.

The Hollywood Reporter reported
last week that Hype Williams has signed a development deal with NBC
Studios to conceive, direct and produce a possible TV
series. This comes after much success with ex-video director
McG's current television hit Fastlane; and a similar
development deal that was recently signed between Fox TV and video
director Dave Meyers.

BUSTA VIDEO
It seems that after a few months hiatus from directing, Hype
Williams is going back to what he does best: directing videos.
The last video we saw from him was 1/4th of the Boyz II Men video The
Color Of Love, which he co-directed with Little X, Chris Robinson
& Benny Boom in May 2002. The last full video he did was
back in February 2002, Nelly Furtado's ...On The Radio. A
reliable source has informed that me that Hype is planning on shooting
the upcoming Busta Rhymes video in November.
