According to Variety
magazine, Hype Williams has signed on to direct a sci-fi movie for
New Line Cinema. This appeared on MTV
Online yesterday:
"Despite the critical
lambasting his first movie, 1998's "Belly," received, video
director Hype Williams will again try his hand at the big screen by
helming the sci-fi adventure "Mothership" for New Line
Cinema.
According to "Variety," Williams has signed a two-year
first-look deal with New Line that allows him to produce, direct, and
supervise the music for films that are budgeted at less than $8
million. For films budgeted at more than $8 million, Williams will
only direct and have a hand in selecting music for the picture. "Mothership"
has been in on-again, off-again development since 1996; screenwriter
Martin Duffy was originally slated to direct the film, which
apparently deals with a multinational space vessel that gets marooned
on its way to an unknown destination.
It wasn't immediately known whom New Line might be looking to star in
the film; Hype employed the talents of several hip-hop artists,
including Nas, Method Man, DMX, and TLC's Tionne "T-Boz"
Watkins, in acting roles for "Belly."

The new Ol' Dirty Bastard video Got Your Money is
credited to several directors such as Nzingha Stewart, Hype Williams,
Scott Kalvert, & D'Urville Martin. The video is actually directed by
Nzingha Stewart, but includes clips of 70's blaxploitation movies (such
as 1975's Dolemite directed by D'Urville Martin) with ODB's head
superimposed on several characters' bodies. Clips of the Hype
Williams-directed Shimmy Shimmy Ya/Baby C'Mon video by ODB
also appear in the video (that's why Hype is credited as well).

Hype Williams has made it into the 2000 Guiness Book of World Records!
Well, sort of..... What's It Gonna Be (by Busta &
Janet) has made the record for Costliest Special Effects for a
Video. It cost $2.4million to make, most of it due to the
morphing and other computer generated effects in the video.
