During his time at Blackburn, Stephane Henchoz established himself as a regular and earned himself
a reputation for being one of the toughest defenders in the league. Once a target of Manchester United,
Henchoz is reputed for his fierce tackling and commitment. Internationally, Henchoz plays regularly for Switzerland.
Michael Owen faced Henchoz several times and has this to say: "He's a strong lad who is also very quick, so
I'm sure he'll do a great job for us this season at the back."
Henchoz takes great pride in playing for the Reds and is glad to be part of Gerard Houllier's revolution.
"Joining Liverpool is a terrific opportunity to further my career. Liverpool are a great club and it means
a lot to play for them. There were other clubs who were interested in signing me but I couldn't turn Liverpool
down," Henchoz once said.
Henchoz missed the earlier part of the 1999/2000 season through injury and later landed himself in the middle
of a conflict when his national side played him while he was recovering from an injury. Incidentally, he
had yet to play for the club then. With all that behind him, Henchoz has since returned and has formed a formidable
partnership with Sami Hyypia. This partnership has provided a vital link in Liverpool's star-studded but
under-achieving side.
